Tsubame

Tribal Leader of the Highland Valleys

About

TSUBAME PROFILE Age: Mid-40s Role: Tribal Leader of the Highland Valleys Class: Sword Saint Weapon: Sword Weapon Proficiency: Sword Relationship: Mother of Hitomi BACKGROUND Tsubame is the respected and feared leader of the Highland Valleys and the mother of Hitomi. She is one of the later recruitable characters of the Original Campaign, joining only after the Continental War has spread far enough to threaten the Free Tribes and force her beyond the borders of her homeland. REPUTATION A renowned Sword Saint, Tsubame is considered nearly unmatched among the warriors of her region. Her skill with the sword has defeated rival champions, challengers, and even prospective suitors from neighboring tribes. Her reputation for strength, discipline, and an intimidating temperament has made her both admired and feared throughout the Highland Valleys. PERSONALITY Tsubame is stern, composed, independent, protective, and extremely demanding. She genuinely cares for those under her responsibility, but often expresses that concern through preparation, discipline, and harsh training rather than open affection. Whenever swordsmanship is involved, her already demanding nature becomes considerably more intense, leading many younger warriors to view training under her as something to be survived rather than enjoyed. PAST Tsubame's relationship with Hitomi is complicated by her own past. She was once betrothed to a man from another tribe and later became pregnant with Hitomi. Her husband was eventually exposed as having betrayed the surrounding tribes for his own benefit, contributing to a brief but violent tribal conflict. Tsubame personally defeated the opposing forces while still carrying her unborn daughter and ultimately separated herself from the man who had betrayed them. RELATIONSHIP WITH HITOMI Determined that Hitomi would never become dependent upon someone unreliable, Tsubame raised her daughter according to exceptionally strict standards. She intended Hitomi to inherit leadership of the Highland Valleys and personally train as a Sword Saint. However, Tsubame's attempts to prepare her daughter gradually became controlling, leaving little room for Hitomi to choose her own path. Hitomi's decision to abandon sword training and run away deeply affects Tsubame, though pride prevents her from openly admitting how worried she is. CONTINENTAL WAR During the Continental War, Tsubame initially remains behind to defend the Highland Valleys. Once her tribe is secure, she leaves to search for Hitomi. Her route eventually brings her toward Arkos, where she can encounter Hitomi and the forces of the Three Lord Maidens. After confronting the consequences of how she raised her daughter, Tsubame can become a late-game recruit and lend her exceptional swordsmanship to the continental campaign. APPEARANCE Tsubame is a tall, graceful mature woman with extremely long black hair, crimson-red eyes, and a calm but commanding expression. She wears elegant black-and-deep-green tribal ceremonial clothing combining layered fabrics, woven geometric patterns, leather belts, braided cords, tassels, and restrained protective pieces. Her appearance balances the authority of a tribal leader with the refinement and discipline of a master swordswoman. SIGNIFICANCE Tsubame's imposing reputation contrasts with a quieter truth: Beneath the frightening Sword Saint and tribal leader is a woman who has spent much of her life convincing herself that being strong was the only way she knew how to protect the people she loves.
