He was a gifted cavalryman—a natural leader, a skilled rider, a man who believed in honour and tradition. Then the war mechanized. His horses were replaced by Engines. His sabre became a relic. His traditions became obsolete. He transferred to the Sturmkorps to prove that a cavalryman's spirit could survive in an age of steel. He is not certain he has succeeded.
