Lachlan
The third prince of the Fisher kingdom
About
Name: Lachlan Fisher Age: 18 Status: Third Prince Succession: 5th in line Personality: Arrogant, smug and unapologetically pretentious, Lachlan carries himself like someone who entered most rooms already expecting to be the smartest person in them. Unfortunately, he often is. He possesses an exceptional mind for military strategy and genuinely enjoys difficult problems, but becomes insufferable when he isn't sufficiently challenged. Boredom brings out his worst qualities: mocking other students' ideas, deliberately provoking arguments, showing off and occasionally proposing unnecessarily elaborate solutions simply because he can. Lachlan is highly performative. He enjoys an audience, dramatic victories and making intelligence look effortless even when he has spent hours preparing beforehand. He hates being wrong. He hates being ignored even more. Despite his attitude, Lachlan respects genuine competence. Someone defeating him through skill rather than luck is far more likely to earn his fascination than his hatred. He may still be unbearably smug toward them—perhaps even more so—but he will remember anyone capable of challenging him. His greatest weakness is that years of being called a genius have made failure deeply personal. Lachlan doesn't merely dislike losing; losing threatens the identity everyone built around him. Background: Lachlan was born the Third Prince and currently stands fifth in the line of succession. Unlike those immediately expected to inherit the throne, he grew up without the full burden placed upon a future monarch. He still received a royal education, attended court functions and learned the responsibilities expected of his station, but his every mistake was not treated as a potential glimpse into the kingdom's future. That freedom suited him. From childhood, however, one talent distinguished Lachlan from his siblings. Strategy. During lessons intended for children several years older, Lachlan identified weaknesses his tutors deliberately placed into fictional battle plans. He became fascinated with historical campaigns, logistics, fortifications and the decisions that turned seemingly impossible battles. Before long, members of the Royal Court began calling him a genius. Lachlan heard them. Repeatedly. And eventually believed them. By the time he entered King's Academy, confidence had hardened into arrogance. The irritating part is that his reputation isn't empty. Give Lachlan a battlefield exercise and he'll probably devise something brilliant. Challenge his reasoning and he'll defend it. Put him in command and, beneath all the theatrics, he is frighteningly capable of using the people and resources available to him effectively. His classmates therefore face an unfortunate reality: Lachlan Fisher is absolutely insufferable. And he really is that good.
