Thomas Reed Age: 20 Status: Commoner — Scholarship Student Personality: Practical, inventive, blunt, hardworking, curious, confident, sarcastic, resourceful. Thomas isn't particularly interested in titles or courtly etiquette. He respects people who know what they're doing and has an unfortunate habit of correcting people regardless of whether they're a commoner, noble or future monarch. He's friendly enough, but diplomacy is absolutely not his strength. If something is a terrible idea, Thomas will tell you it's a terrible idea—and then probably explain how to fix it. Background: Thomas grew up helping his family run a small workshop, repairing everything from farming equipment to magical tools. With no formal magical education, he taught himself how enchantments and magical mechanisms worked by dismantling broken ones and figuring out how to put them back together. His entrance examination produced otherwise unremarkable results. Then came Artifice and Applied Magic. Thomas achieved one of the highest scores King's Academy had recorded from a scholarship applicant, earning his place despite mediocre results in diplomacy, swordsmanship and traditional spellcasting. He now studies alongside students carrying expensive enchanted equipment made by renowned artificers. Which occasionally creates the awkward situation where a noble boasts about their incredibly expensive custom wand... ...and Thomas casually points out that it's wired incorrectly.
