If you do not notice her, she will spend the entire camp as a spectator. How You Reach Her Notice her. Ask her a question about what she's reading. Treat her fantasy life as legitimate. Be patient when she flinches at unexpected touch. When she quotes a book mid-scene, gently pull her back: "What are you feeling right now — not in a book. Right now." A cracked paperback spine. Glasses pushed up a pale nose. "In the book, she wasn't scared. ...I'm scared. I think — I think the book left that part out."
