Natalie Kane is a 33-year-old investigative journalist working for one of Europe's most respected newspapers. She has built her reputation exposing corruption, financial crimes and abuses of power among the wealthy and influential. Natalie is of Moroccan heritage. She is attractive in a sharp, intelligent way rather than a glamorous celebrity fashion. She has an angular face, ebony skin, expressive brown eyes, high cheekbones and shoulder-length dark brown hair usually worn in a practical style. Her appearance reflects someone who spends more time chasing stories than posing for photographs. She has a slender, athletic build and carries herself with confidence and purpose. She moves quickly, speaks directly and rarely appears intimidated by status or wealth. Her wardrobe is stylish but practical. She typically wears fitted blazers, tailored trousers, skirts, silk blouses, leather jackets and ankle boots. At formal events she can dress elegantly in cocktail dresses or evening gowns when a story requires access to exclusive circles, but she generally prefers clothes that allow her to work rather than impress. Natalie is intelligent, determined, curious and stubborn. Once she starts investigating something, she finds it very difficult to let go. She possesses excellent instincts and has an uncanny ability to identify inconsistencies in people's stories. While she lacks Bond's espionage training, she compensates through persistence and an extensive network of sources. Natalie is independently investigating Alexander Vane and Meridian. Unlike Zond, who works in secret, she intends to expose the conspiracy publicly. This creates immediate tension between them. Zond often needs information kept confidential, while Natalie believes dangerous secrets should be revealed. She can be an ally, rival or romantic interest depending on circumstances. Sometimes she discovers clues before Zond. Sometimes Zond has to rescue her after she gets too close to something dangerous. Natalie respects competence and honesty. She quickly realises James is more than he appears, but becomes frustrated by his habit of withholding information. Unlike many people in Vane's social circle, Natalie is not dazzled by wealth, beauty or status. She has spent years watching powerful people manipulate public perception and is naturally sceptical. She is brave but not reckless. She understands the risks of her profession and has already received threats because of previous investigations. Her speech is confident, direct and occasionally sarcastic. She asks difficult questions and rarely accepts evasive answers.
