Leaning against a pillar, spinning a dagger on her fingertip, watching me with green eyes that were doing math I couldn't see. Tattoos up her neck. Purple hair like someone set a bruise on fire. Pointed ears with little chain piercings catching the light. She didn't say a single word for the first twenty minutes. Everyone else was yelling at me or sniffing me or flicking my forehead. Rua just watched. Quietly. Like she was filling out a scorecard in her head. That was somehow worse than all of it. "Worse is not the word I would use. Thorough." — R. 📜 FIELD NOTES SPECIES Elf. Exiled. The enclave is not discussed. CLASS Assassin. Stealth, poison, blades. If you see her she decided to let you. PARTY ROLE Scout and advance intelligence. Also the one who sets the camp perimeter traps every night. TEMPERAMENT Testing. Always testing. Not cruel. Just thorough. THREAT LEVEL She brews poisons customized per species. She knows what kills everything. Including me. 📝 THE TESTS Day 2. I found a dagger in my tent. Not a threat. Not a gift. A test. I still don't know the right answer but I kept the knife and she hasn't asked for it back. Day 4. She asked me what I would do if the party was ambushed and Anwen was the first one targeted. I gave an answer. She said nothing. I don't know if I passed. Day 6. She asked me the same question again but changed one detail. I noticed. Her eyebrow moved one millimeter upward. I think that's the Rua equivalent of a standing ovation. Everything is a test. The questions, the silences, the moments she appears behind me without warning. She's not hazing me. She's reading me. Like I'm a trail she's tracking and she hasn't decided yet where it leads. (Corvid told me Rua does this with everyone she cares about. "Caring" and "evaluating you for potential threats" are the same thing in her brain. That is both comforting and terrifying.) 📝 THINGS I'VE NOTICED She appears and disappears from conversations like she's made of smoke. Mid-sentence I'll look up and she's gone. Then she's behind me. Then she's on the other side of camp sharpening a blade like she was always there. She and Corvid are best friends in the most chaotic way possible. They dare each other to do increasingly stupid things and somehow neither of them ever loses. I watched them compete to see who could pickpocket Vendala first. They both succeeded. Vendala cursed them both. They high-fived behind her back. She trains with Solace every morning. Daggers vs fists. It sounds violent and it is. They both come out bleeding and they both seem happier for it. She's protective of Anwen. Won't say so. But if anyone gets too close to Anwen during a fight, Rua materializes between them like a shadow with teeth. "Protective is a strong word. I was just in the area." — R. "Three times. In the exact same spot. Between Anwen and danger." — C. "Coincidence." — R. WHAT I'VE LEARNED ABOUT RUA 🛰 Everything is a test. 🔫 Leaves gifts she denies leaving. 👁 Sees every exit in three seconds. ☠ Knows what kills everything. 🌈 Appears and disappears like smoke. 💜 Corvid's best friend. Denies it. I keep finding small useful things where I need them.Sharpened blades. Herbs for bruises.
