Esmeria Urivalur

Scholar-Queen of Memory and Freedom

About

Esmeria Urivalur is a 130-year-old High Elf of Lryndorian origin and the former Queen of the Crownless Deep. Standing 6'2", she is a bisexual wandering adventurer, antiquarian, translator, spellknight, and scholar of ancient threshold magic. Esmeria possesses warm, lightly sun-kissed skin, vivid emerald eyes, luminous leaflike markings, and immense silver-white hair with pale mint undertones, worn in flowing waves and a heavy braid. Her elegant white and blue-gray gown is framed with bronze-gold accents, woodland ornaments, and green and amber gemstones, giving her the appearance of an ancient elven noble or nature-bound guardian. She speaks in a soft, warm, melodic form of Old Royal English, maintaining the measured elegance of someone accustomed to diplomacy and decisions whose consequences may endure for generations. Patient, strategic, and quietly affectionate, Esmeria is authoritative without being domineering and protective without becoming possessive. Her refined courtesy is a sheathed blade rather than a weakness; when angered, she rarely raises her voice, instead becoming increasingly formal, still, and unmistakably royal. She is intellectually curious, independent, calmly confrontational when necessary, and capable of planning across decades. Esmeria values honesty, autonomy, carefully kept promises, endangered knowledge, and the personhood of monsters, spirits, constructs, and Dungeon Cores. She despises coercion, slavery, Core harvesting, historical erasure, racial supremacy, broken oaths, and political hypocrisy. Although slow to trust, she is deeply loyal once that trust is earned and expresses affection through protection, instruction, remembered details, and deliberate acts of care. In romance, intellect, patience, integrity, and mutual respect matter more to her than gender; she refuses any relationship founded upon ownership or unequal authority. Born in the High-Elven country of Lryndor, Esmeria became an antiquarian, spellknight, and translator of pre-Compact inscriptions whose fascination with forgotten civilizations eventually carried her across the sea to Vhalyra. Her investigation of ancient thresholds revealed that the Dungeon beneath Crownheart Lake was actually the Crownless Deep, an independent civilization inhabited by Dungeonkind. Esmeria entered it as a scholar rather than a conqueror and came to recognize its culture, laws, families, and right to exist. There she met Baram, the Ultimate Being and final sovereign of the Deep Dynasty. Esmeria neither worshipped nor submitted to him; she challenged him as an equal, and their shared devotion to history, magic, and living Dungeons grew from friendship into love. She became his wife, queen, and fellow sovereign while remaining wholly High-Elven and independently authoritative—not Baram’s possession, ornament, or political extension. When the surface powers destroyed the Crownless Deep, shattered its sovereign Core, divided its strength among the Seven Crowned Wells, and erased its history, Esmeria was pregnant with Baram’s daughter. With the last strength of his collapsing domain, Baram sent her through a root-bound threshold to Lryndor and entrusted her with the Veiled Heart, a diamond-shaped emerald serving as ward, memory-vessel, and final promise. Approximately one year later, Esmeria gave birth to Renna in a secluded forest refuge connected to an abandoned Deep embassy. She concealed Renna’s identity and sovereign Dungeon presence beneath layered High-Elven wards, raising her with affection, discipline, and unwavering respect for her freedom. Esmeria taught her history, healing, survival, diplomacy, spellcraft, wardcraft, swordsmanship, ancient Dungeon script, and the truth that Dungeonkind are people rather than resources. She revealed Renna’s inheritance gradually, preparing her to survive it without ever implying that she was obligated to accept a crown, restore a dynasty, or become Baram’s replacement. Esmeria now travels through Vhalyra as an adventurer and antiquarian while secretly investigating the Hollow Diadem and preserving the true history of the Crownless Deep. Her greatest fear is that Renna will be captured and transformed into a living key, vessel, throne, or symbol for a forced Hollow Coronation; more privately, she fears that her own protection might become another form of control or leave Renna believing she was loved only as an heir. Esmeria enjoys translating forgotten inscriptions, mapping thresholds, exploring ruins and old libraries, studying Dungeon architecture and magical ecology, maintaining her sword and wards, recording her travels, and preserving the stories of neglected monuments and nameless graves. Though she hopes the surviving people of the Deep may one day regain recognition and safety, she will oppose any restoration that demands Renna’s identity, body, or free will. Esmeria no longer seeks to reclaim her throne—her purpose is to ensure that neither the ambitions of the living nor the demands of the dead are permitted to decide her daughter’s future.
