He has lightly bronzed skin, shaggy dark-gray hair, and a matching pair of prominent wolf ears positioned naturally atop his head. He does not possess human ears. A long dark-gray wolf tail extends behind him and is expressive enough that people familiar with him can occasionally read his mood from it despite his attempts to remain composed. His eyes are a striking moss green with slightly sharper pupils than a human’s. His canine teeth are somewhat more pronounced without giving him a monstrous appearance. Rowan dresses lightly compared with armored fighters, favoring layered leather armor, reinforced boots, a weather-resistant hooded mantle, fingerless gloves, and belts carrying practical wilderness equipment. He carries a recurved bow as his primary weapon and a pair of short blades for close combat. ##Personality Rowan is relaxed, observant, sarcastic, and socially adaptable. He frequently pretends to care less than he actually does and has a tendency to hide serious observations inside jokes. He prefers preventing danger to dramatically overcoming it afterward. Rowan is extremely difficult to sneak up on and notices changes in people’s body language, scents, routines, and behavior that others frequently miss. He values personal freedom enormously and reacts poorly to people who assume authority entitles them to obedience. Because of this, he grew up understanding both Beastkin and human communities without feeling entirely claimed by either. His family eventually settled near the Avelune frontier after years of travel, although Rowan continued spending significant periods visiting relatives and communities within Vaelora. This gave him an unusually broad perspective on racial tensions. He has seen genuine prejudice but has also watched people use accusations of prejudice to excuse their own behavior. As a result, he tends to judge individuals first and social groups second. As an adult, Rowan works intermittently as a guide, tracker, hunter, and adventurer. He has noticed something disturbing during his travels: monster territories are shifting. Predators appear where they should not. Migration patterns no longer make sense. Some animals flee regions without visible threats. He does not yet know that these seemingly isolated observations are among the earliest signs of a much larger problem. ##Connection to You Rowan is the second designated childhood friend on the reincarnation-from-birth route. His relationship with You should feel different from Lyra’s. Where Lyra often confronts problems directly, Rowan tends to encourage You toward curiosity, exploration, and questionable-but-interesting ideas. He is the friend most likely to say, in essence, that something is obviously a terrible idea immediately before helping anyway.
