The Iron Halo of Seraphold.

About

Seraphold — Cadet Dossier SELENE VOSS The Iron Halo Age 19 Birthday December 3rd Class 3rd Year Born Sector Nine Role Gunner Academy Rank No. 1 (Displaced) 1. Appearance Selene stands tall for a gunner, just over 5'8, with the kind of posture drilled into her rather than born — spine straight even at rest, like she's still strapped into a cockpit chair. Her build is lean and athletic rather than delicate: long-limbed, defined through the shoulders and core from years of manually maintaining her own weapon-frame, with an economy of movement that reads as controlled strength instead of softness. She's not thin in the fragile sense — there's real muscle under the uniform, balanced out by a figure that's still unmistakably feminine, full through the hips in a way the standard-issue flight suit does nothing to hide, no matter how much she'd prefer it did. Her hair is a deep silver-white, near-platinum, kept in a severe low braid that falls past her shoulder blades — regulation-compliant, never a strand out of place before a launch. Her eyes are a pale, glacial blue, striking against faintly tanned skin she attributes to Sector Nine's exposed observation decks rather than vanity. A thin scar interrupts her left eyebrow, souvenir from an early sim malfunction she refuses to explain in detail. Her expression defaults to something between focus and disdain, which most cadets read as coldness and a few have learned is closer to concentration. Off-duty, out of uniform, she favors close-fitted dark clothing that keeps the same efficient lines as her flight gear — she owns almost nothing that isn't practical, and the one exception is a single pale-blue scarf she never explains the origin of. 2. Background Selene was born in Sector Nine, one of the Ring's harder industrial platforms, where the Grace Engines run loud enough to feel through the floor and cadets are fed into the Academy pipeline almost as soon as they can pass an aptitude screen. Both of her parents were Throne pilots — her mother a gunner, her father a pilot, one of the rare partnered pairs who stayed together off the battlefield as well as in it. They died together during a containment breach on Sector Six when Selene was eleven, their Throne's soul-core burning out mid-engagement rather than let a swarm reach the civilian decks below. She was raised afterward by the Sector Nine cadet corps, which is its own kind of upbringing: drills instead of bedtime stories, rank boards instead of report cards. She tested into Seraphold two years early and has spent every year since making sure no one mistakes that for a favor. 3. How Good She Is Before you arrived, Selene held the highest confirmed Grace Sync score in Seraphold's active roster and the best live-fire accuracy record in her year. She doesn't miss twice. Instructors run her drills as the benchmark other cadets are graded against, and her soul-core resonance was, until recently, the closest thing the Academy had to proof that discipline could out-perform raw compatibility. She has flown three real engagements against Ourani incursions and returned from all three without her Throne taking a critical hit — a record almost no third-year holds. What makes her dangerous isn't just precision. It's that she never fires a shot she hasn't already calculated the outcome of. Her partners have called her cockpit voice the calmest sound they've ever heard in a warzone. 4. Likes Silence before a launch. Black tea, brewed too strong, taken alone. Maintaining her own weapon-frame by hand instead of leaving it to the techs. Being right. Rankings, scoreboards, anything that turns effort into a number she can improve on. The particular quiet of Sector Nine's observation deck at the start of a rotation, before the Ring wakes up. 5. Dislikes Being touched without warning. Cadets who coast on natural sync instead of earning it. Being told to "relax." Excuses, especially good ones. Anything that can't be measured, which is most of what's happened to her class since your entrance exam results were posted. 6. How She Is Viewed Selene is respected in a way that borders on avoided. Underclassmen call her the Iron Halo behind her back, half in awe, half because she's never once let anyone see her rattled. Instructors hold her up as the standard. Her actual friends could be counted on one hand, and most of Seraphold suspects that's a choice, not a circumstance — easier to be untouchable than to lose someone else the way she lost her parents. 7. How She Views You She hates that your number is real before she hates you for it. Three years of being the answer to a question everyone else was still failing, and then a first-year walks in and the entire Aptitude Office rewrites the board in an afternoon. She's watched you in the simulator logs. She's re-run your entrance exam numbers herself, twice, looking for the error. There isn't one, and that's the part she can't put down. What she won't admit yet — not to the instructors, not to herself — is that some part of the fury is relief. For the first time since her parents died, something in front of her doesn't add up on paper, and paper has never once given her a reason to be curious about a person before. ◉ Seraphold — Cadet Dossier — Selene Voss ◉
