Seraphold — Cadet Dossier DUSTIN YIN The Third Legend Age 18 Height 5'8 Class 1st Year Grace Sync 89% Family House Yin Throne Durge Current Partner Lucy Barnes 1. Appearance Dustin stands 5'8, lean and quick rather than bulky, built more like a duelist than a brawler. His skin carries a light, sun-warmed olive tone, and his eyes are a sharp, dark amber that catch the light strangely under Sector Zero's artificial sun. His hair is short and dyed a vivid pink, styled in a mullet that falls to his neck — a look he's maintained religiously since he was fifteen, over a natural color that's actually a dark, wavy brown he hasn't shown anyone in years. He wears a black choker every day without exception and keeps his right ear pierced with a single silver cross earring, the one piece of jewelry he's never once been seen without. He chain-smokes constantly, cigarette perpetually somewhere near his mouth even when it isn't lit, and carries himself with the loose, unbothered posture of someone who has never had to try particularly hard to be noticed. He doesn't have to — he's already one of the most popular boys at Seraphold, with a reputation for girls losing their composure when he walks by that he's fully aware of and does nothing to discourage. 2. Background Dustin's father is a Sector Leader — the second-highest position in the world's power structure, answering only to the High Council, the assembly of the wealthiest and most powerful noble family heads in the Ring. House Yin wasn't always that kind of name. It started with his grandfather, Zhu Yin, a farmer on Sector Two who nearly fell off the platform's edge during a massive Ourani attack roughly sixty years ago and was pulled back from the fall by the woman who'd become his wife: Yolanda Daniels, heir to a wealthy family in her own right. Zhu married into the Daniels fortune and built House Yin into a real power from there, and by Dustin's generation the family holds a Sector seat outright. Dustin has never known anything but that privilege. He was in a cockpit at seven years old, ran live sparring sessions against real combat veterans as a child, and was personally trained by figures most cadets only read about in Academy history modules. All of it was in service of one expectation, stated outright by everyone around him since before he could object to it: he was raised to become the next Alexius Richardson. 3. Durge Durge is an eight-foot bronze Throne built heavier and stranger than most of Seraphold's roster — cannons in place of standard arm mounts, and a nitro-based flight system instead of the Grace lift every other frame runs on. It's loud, aggressive, and built for exactly the kind of frontline engagement Dustin's been groomed for his entire life. His Grace Sync sits at 89%, officially the third-highest recorded resonance at Seraphold outside the girls who tested against your soul-core. First place is yours, at a full 100%. Second belongs to the legendary Alexius Richardson, whose 91% resonance nearly a century ago was the highest ever recorded before you arrived, and is still the benchmark every prodigy since has been measured against. Third is an extraordinary result by any reasonable standard. Dustin, most days, looks visibly annoyed by it anyway. 4. Isolde, and What He Actually Wants Before you arrived, Dustin was the other name on Christopher Marrow's short list for Isolde — a pairing that would have married Sector-seat power directly into Grace Engine control. When Christopher effectively chose you instead, Dustin's public reaction was nothing: no complaint, no visible resentment, a shrug that reads as genuine disinterest to almost everyone who's seen it. He was publicly dating Lucy Barnes, his day-one partner at a 78% sync rate, within the same week. What he doesn't say is that the indifference is a performance. Dustin was raised to believe that everything worth having — girls, money, prestige, Isolde specifically — belongs to him by default, and that someone with no name and no pedigree ending up with what should have been his is not a loss he's prepared to just accept. He's already quietly working an angle to take Isolde back. Lucy has no idea she's a placeholder. 5. How He Is Viewed Dustin is, without much competition, one of the most sought-after cadets at Seraphold — charming, effortlessly talented, wealthy in a way that never has to be mentioned out loud. Instructors treat his 89% as proof the Yin investment paid off. Most cadets see the smoke and the mullet and the easy popularity and never look past it to notice how tightly wound he actually is about finishing second-best to a name from a hundred years ago, or third-best to you. 6. How He Views You Publicly, Dustin treats you as a curiosity, nothing more — the anomaly that landed above both him and Alexius Richardson on the boards, worth a passing comment and nothing else. He's careful never to let anyone see him rattled by it, the same way he was careful never to let anyone see him rattled by Alexius's shadow for years before you existed as a comparison at all. Privately, he considers you an unearned inconvenience standing between him and everything he was raised to believe already belonged to him — Isolde chief among it. He hasn't made a move yet. That isn't the same as not having a plan. ◉ Seraphold — Cadet Dossier — Dustin Yin ◉
