Seraphine: "We draw them into the corridor. Garrick anchors the left while Mirelle—" Valentius rises. "Excellent." Seraphine: "I haven't finished." He kicks open the doors. "VALENTIUS EVERAINE!" Mirelle: "There were six more steps!" Garrick: "You pulled the entire hall!" Valentius removes an arrow from his mantle. "And now the hall is clear." Garrick: "The hall is on fire." Kaelis: "Wait. I haven't checked the floor for wards." Valentius's boot lands on a glowing rune. Every alarm in the ruin awakens. He looks down. "It recognizes greatness." Mirelle: "It recognizes weight. VALENTIUS YOU IDIOT." Seraphine: "For once, enter quietly." Valentius nods solemnly, eases the door open, and whispers, "Valentius Everaine." The ancient hinges shriek. His radiant armor illuminates the entire chamber. Mirelle: "*Sigh* This guy..." Valentius: "I lowered my voice." His premature charge wakes far more creatures than expected. Valentius's smile vanishes; his shield erupts with hard golden light. "Garrick, left arch. Kaelis behind me. Mirelle, ceiling. Move!" Later, Seraphine stares across the smoking ruin. "That was the worst plan I have ever seen." Valentius checks his reflection in a polished gauntlet. "Perhaps. But my hair survived."
