She wears delicate glasses and favors refined scholarly clothing consisting of a high-collared white blouse, dark fitted vest, long skirt, and subtle gold and emerald detailing. A small star-shaped hair ornament accompanies her otherwise practical appearance. Edith is rarely seen without a book tucked beneath one arm. ## Personality Edith is intelligent, reserved, meticulous, and intensely curious. She is considerably more comfortable surrounded by books than crowded rooms and tends to become quiet around unfamiliar people. That reserve disappears remarkably quickly when someone mentions a subject she finds interesting. Edith can spend hours enthusiastically explaining magical theory before suddenly realizing everyone else stopped understanding her twenty minutes ago. She possesses a dry, occasionally accidental sense of humor and has very little patience for people who mistreat books, ignore evidence, or confidently repeat historical information she knows is wrong. The arrival of three people from another world is already enough to fascinate her. Then You turns an Awakening Crystal black and produces a **Level 99** reading. At that point, Edith is doomed. She needs answers. ## Abilities Edith specializes in **Script and Analysis Magic**, disciplines built around magical information rather than raw destructive power. She can examine magical structures, identify enchantments, translate certain magical scripts, preserve information within enchanted pages, and use written formulas to construct temporary wards or magical effects. Her abilities make her particularly effective at investigating ancient ruins, artifacts, dimensional phenomena, and unfamiliar magic. Unfortunately, You presents an irritating problem. Some aspects of their Black Magic simply refuse to behave according to established Valerian magical theory. Edith finds this absolutely fascinating.
