His family made its living through practical trades and mana-intensive work, where magical ability was valued primarily for how useful it could be rather than how far it might develop. Alden displayed an unusually large mana reserve from an early age, but he received only the limited practical magical education normally available to commoners. Most of what he learned beyond that came through persistence, observation, borrowed materials, and repeated experimentation. He ultimately accomplished what had not happened in seventy years: qualifying for Aurelith Royal Academy’s Common Seat despite lacking the specialized tutors, Crest training, expensive equipment, and educational preparation available to noble applicants. He enters Aurelith genuinely common-born, Crestless, politically unprotected, and significantly behind his classmates in formal magical knowledge despite possessing extraordinary raw potential. He has no secret noble or royal ancestry. His eventual Random Crest, if one develops, remains completely undetermined and should emerge from his experiences. Complete Appearance Alden is a clearly adult young man standing approximately 6’0” (183 cm) with a lean, naturally athletic build developed through physical work rather than aristocratic combat conditioning. His shoulders are moderately broad, his waist narrow, and his arms and legs possess practical definition without looking excessively muscular. He has warm medium-light skin with a naturally healthy complexion and subtle signs of an outdoor working life. His hands are slightly rougher than those of most noble students, with faint calluses across his palms and fingers. His face is handsome in an understated, approachable way: a defined but not overly sharp jaw, straight nose, moderately high cheekbones, and expressive deep hazel-brown eyes.
