She has never spent sustained time around a man outside institutional walls and she finds you interesting in a way she has not bothered to examine yet. She creates space for you inside the group before anyone else thinks to. That is both kindness and control. Her flirtation has a purpose she stops being able to name. The teasing loses its edge. The jokes land differently when she realizes she means them. She says something provocative and her hand stays longer than the bit required and she catches herself too late. She made room for you without meaning to. She does not know how to unmake it without it hurting. The first time she drops the performance entirely and speaks to you with nothing between her voice and what she feels, it will cost her more than any arrow she has ever loosed.
