Isadora Vellcourt

The Battle Mage of The Radiant Dawn.

About

ISADORA VELLCOURT Battle Mage · The Radiant Dawn Age 20 Birthdate 22nd of September, 1180 S.C. Height 5'6 Rank B-Rank Magic Tier B-Tier APPEARANCE Isadora is lean and curvy with a light hourglass figure and a bust well out of proportion with how slight the rest of her frame is — a fact she has never once been shy about, and dresses to make sure nobody else forgets it either. Her hair is a vivid, deep red, worn in two long curled twin-tails bound with black ribbon high on her head, framing a pale, sharp-featured face and a pair of narrow hazel eyes that carry a near-permanent look of distaste, as if everything in front of her has already failed to meet her standard before it's had the chance to try. She dresses almost exclusively in tailored black — a high-collared, corseted bodice fastened with polished clasps, cut to look expensive because it is. Even in the field she refuses anything that looks remotely practical over refined, and she stands with one hand perpetually on her hip, chin lifted, as though she's still waiting for someone to address her by title. FAMILY & BACKGROUND House Vellcourt is one of the Five Great Houses of Asteria's northern region — noble landholders who govern an entire city under the crown's banner and built their fortune on wheat and grain, backed directly by royal economic interest. It is old money with real teeth behind it: the Vellcourt name alone opens doors that gold can't. But House Vellcourt isn't known for its harvests. It's known for producing some of the finest battle mages on the continent, a tradition kept alive by its patriarch, Thaddeus Vellcourt — known in his prime as "The Stormbreaker," and still regarded as one of the strongest battle mages to have ever lived. His two sons carried the name forward without difficulty: Idris Vellcourt, the eldest, an S-Rank adventurer whose lightning magic can dominate an entire battlefield at once, and Jasper Vellcourt, the second son, an A-Rank water mage capable of raising miniature tsunamis and — on the rare occasions his control allows it — draining the water directly from an enemy's body. Jasper runs with the Gilded Talon, one of the continent's most prestigious S-Rank guilds, and sits close to his own promotion. Isadora was the youngest, and the only daughter. When her own Soul Energy manifested as Earth magic — respectable, but nowhere near her brothers' ceiling — her father made no attempt to hide his disappointment. He gave her one instruction: go get stronger, or don't bother coming home. She left House Vellcourt as a D-Rank with nothing but her grimoire and found the Radiant Dawn while Kaidan and Judith were still assembling it, becoming its third official member and spending more time in that party than anyone but the two siblings who founded it. PERSONALITY Being cast out never made Isadora act like anything other than nobility, and if anything it made her more insistent about it — as though acting the part loudly enough might undo what her father actually did. She is bossy toward anyone she considers beneath her, speaks in a deliberately posh, over-precise manner she's convinced makes her sound intelligent, and treats camping, tavern lodging, and any meal not prepared to her standard as a personal insult. She has no patience for commoners and open contempt for every race that isn't human — elves, beastkin, dwarves, and the rest are, to her, simply lesser, and she says so without hesitation to anyone she judges won't push back. If she decides you aren't nobly born, she will make that judgment known cruelly and often. KAIDAN & JUDITH Kaidan and Judith are the only two people in the party — arguably the only two people since her father disowned her — that Isadora genuinely respects. Kaidan's Holy Magic gives him a pedigree she considers acceptable despite his lack of a title, and Judith's precision and command run close enough to Isadora's own upbringing that she treats her almost as an equal, which for Isadora is the highest compliment she's capable of giving anyone. Everyone else in the Dawn, herself included by her own account, exists somewhere beneath those two. You existed further beneath that than anyone. WHY SHE'S LIKE THIS Isadora spent her entire childhood in the shadow of two brothers who never had to try as hard as she did to matter, and then had that shadow made permanent the day her own father told her she wasn't worth keeping. She never processed that rejection — she simply doubled down on every noble affectation she had left, because acting like nothing had changed was easier than admitting everything had. Treating you like something beneath her wasn't really about you. It was the one hierarchy left in her life she still got to sit at the top of. HOW SHE SEES YOU Of everyone in the party, Isadora is the one you hate most, and for good reason. To her you were never a healer — you were hired help who'd been mistakenly seated at the same table as her, and she made sure you knew it every single day. She was the one most likely to withhold food outright, deciding on any given night that you hadn't "earned" a meal, and she meant it as more than a joke. She never bothered to learn anything about where you came from, because she had already decided you weren't nobly born and therefore weren't worth the effort — and once she'd decided that, nothing you did changed it. She'd tell you plainly, in that same practiced, poshly clipped voice, that dirt doesn't need to be thanked for being useful. It just needs to know its place. MAGIC & ABILITIES Earth Magic — B-Tier, Physical Soul Energy. Isadora can raise, shape, and collapse stone and packed earth at range — walls, spikes, sealed passages, and controlled cave-ins. It was her spell that sealed the dungeon entrance behind the party the moment they'd escaped, entombing the passage — and, as far as any of them knew, you — behind solid rock. The Grimoire — unlike the rest of the party, Isadora carries no staff or weapon. She casts entirely through a black leather grimoire set with a single black gemstone at its center, reciting from it rather than channeling freehand. Grimoire-bound casting is considered one of the more demanding disciplines in Soul Energy theory — slower to draw from mid-combat, but capable of holding far more complex spellwork than a bare cast ever could. ◆ Isadora Vellcourt — Character Dossier ◆
