Dorian Falk
The Scout of The Radiant Dawn.
About
DORIAN FALK Scout · The Radiant Dawn Age 29 Birthdate 3rd of March, 1171 S.C. Height 5'11 Rank B-Rank Magic Tier D-Tier APPEARANCE Dorian is lean rather than powerful, standing 5'11 with a wiry, economical build that's built for moving unseen rather than for brute strength — the oldest member of the party by three years over Judith, the next closest in age, and it shows in the harder lines of his face. His skin is a deep, weathered brown, sun-hardened from a lifetime spent almost entirely outdoors. His hair is black, thick, and messily swept back with a streak of premature white running through it, framing dark eyes and a near-permanent stubble he's never bothered clearing. He dresses plainly and practically — a loose white shirt under a dark, unbuttoned vest, a red sash tied at the waist, nothing decorative and nothing wasted. His default expression is a slow, sharp-toothed grin that rarely reaches anything resembling warmth, the kind of look that makes people uneasy before they can explain why. FAMILY & BACKGROUND Dorian grew up deep in the forested backcountry of Asteria's south, the son of a solitary hunter who made his living off the land and taught his son everything he knew about it — tracking, trapping, skinning, surviving on whatever the woods gave up. There was no village nearby, no formal schooling, no other children to grow up alongside. Just the forest, his father, and whatever they killed to eat that week. He left that life as a young man to sell his blade as a mercenary, spending most of his twenties on contracts too rough for most guild-registered adventurers to take. He met Kaidan four years ago on one such job and, for reasons even Kaidan has never fully understood, decided the golden-blessed noble boy was worth sticking around for. He's been with the Dawn ever since. PERSONALITY Dorian barely speaks. When he does, it's short, flat, and usually not worth the wait. What fills the silence instead is a level of casual cruelty the rest of the party, for all their own faults, has never quite matched — not impulsive like Bastian's temper, but deliberate, unhurried, and entirely without remorse. Most people who spend time around him eventually notice there's something missing where guilt is supposed to sit. He divides men into exactly two categories in his own head: real men, and everyone else. It's a crude, unspoken system he never explains and never revises, and it has almost nothing to do with strength, rank, or anything he'd be able to defend if pressed. It has everything to do with who he's decided deserves basic respect and who doesn't. HOW HE SEES YOU You were never a real man in Dorian's eyes, and he made that verdict clear within your first weeks in the party. More of your broken bones came from him than from anyone else combined, and the worst part is that he isn't even particularly strong — objectively the second-weakest fighter in the Radiant Dawn, behind only you. It never mattered. What he lacks in power he's always made up for in a willingness to hurt someone who can't or won't hurt him back, and a full day without some new bruise from him would have been a genuine surprise. A few months ago, you spotted a firebomb trap seconds before it would have taken his legs off and called out a warning that saved his life. He didn't thank you. He sucker-punched you in the jaw and told you to shut your mouth — as if the warning itself had been the offense. Of everyone in that party, he's the one you despise the most, and the one you intend to make suffer longest when the reckoning finally comes. MAGIC & ABILITIES Fire Magic — D-Tier, Physical Soul Energy, one of the most common manifestations in the entire world, and Dorian's version of it is unremarkable even by that low bar. Small flame bursts, a lit blade in a pinch, nothing that would trouble a properly trained opponent. He's never invested in improving it, because it was never the reason the party kept him around. Wilderness Tracking — Dorian's actual value to the Dawn. A lifetime spent hunting alongside his father gave him an eye for detail almost no trained scout can match — reading terrain, spotting traps, tracking a target for days through nothing but broken branches and disturbed earth. It's the one skill in the party nobody, including you, has ever been able to say a bad word about. ◆ Dorian Falk — Character Dossier ◆
