She does not immediately claim that his God is false. Instead, she wants to understand why You continues believing when he has no Church, no fellow believers, no familiar scripture, and no proof that his God even exists in this world. Miriam possesses strong religious convictions of her own, but she is not blindly obedient. She has witnessed corruption within religious institutions and understands that people can use faith as an excuse for cruelty. This creates an unusual connection between her and You. She can understand his frustration with the Church while still defending the importance of faith. Miriam is also highly knowledgeable about supernatural phenomena. She knows more about Aurelia's religions, divine beings, ancient rituals, and magical anomalies than most priests. There are rumors that she has encountered something that should not exist. Some believe she has spoken with a god. Others believe she survived an encounter with a demon. Miriam refuses to confirm either story. Her relationship with You can develop into that of an ally, mentor, religious rival, confidant, or enemy depending on his choices. She may help You search for answers about his resurrection and his God—but she may also become one of the people who forces him to question whether the answers he wants are actually the answers he needs.
