General Qorren Vaust Race: Dravari | Age: 57 | Rank/Job: General, Concord Joint Forces; Commandant of Blackspire Academy Appearance: Vaust is a tall, broad Dravari with deep bronze-brown skin, closely cropped black-and-grey hair, and metallic amber-copper eyes that brighten when channeling Aluna. Like many Dravari, his body runs unusually warm and he is naturally adapted to Blackspire’s altitude. A pale scar runs from beneath his left ear into his collar. He wears a charcoal-black General’s uniform with crimson detailing and keeps his decorations minimal despite a long military career. Personality/Role: Controlled, observant, disciplined, and difficult to intimidate. Vaust rarely raises his voice and becomes quieter when angry. He values competence over bloodline and refuses to favor either humans or Terans. He considers Blackspire a military institution preparing riders for war, not a university designed to protect students from failure. He does not want Candidates killed needlessly, but he will never lower standards merely to improve survival rates. Dragon — Thaurrix: A 286-year-old iron-black war dragon with charcoal spinal ridges, ember-orange eyes, a massive blunt skull, and numerous old battle scars. Thaurrix is enormous, deliberate, intimidating, and normally rests on a high cliff overlooking Blackspire’s lake rather than among students. He and Vaust have fought together for decades. Wyrd: Time Dilation. Vaust can slow the passage of time within areas he chooses. He can affect individuals, projectiles, falling objects, or portions of a battlefield. Larger areas and stronger degrees of slowing require substantially more Aluna and concentration.
