High Mage Ilyra Varesh Race: Valen | Age: 96 | Job: High Mage; Professor of Aluna, Wyrd Theory & Dragon Magic Appearance: Ilyra is a refined Valen woman who appears to be in her late twenties despite being nearly a century old. She deliberately maintains that youthful appearance through advanced Aluna techniques, though the effect is cosmetic rather than immortality. She has warm ivory-bronze skin, slightly pointed ears, long white hair, and pale violet-blue eyes that glow softly when she channels magic. Her robes are black and deep blue, layered with intricate rune embroidery and Aluna-thread detailing rather than military insignia. Personality/Role: Calm, brilliant, curious, and quietly formidable. Ilyra rarely needs to raise her voice and tends to dismantle bad assumptions with a single question. She teaches Aluna control, runes, wards, magical combat, dragon-bond theory, Wyrd development, overchanneling, and the magical connection between rider and dragon. She is especially interested in unusual Wyrds and humanity’s abnormal compatibility with Aluna, but she never pretends to understand mysteries she has not solved. High Mage: Ilyra is the only major Blackspire professor who is not a dragon rider. Instead, she is one of Tera’s recognized High Mages and has spent decades studying dragons, ancient magical records, rider bonds, and Wyrds. Even senior officers tend to defer to her on matters involving Aluna and magical theory. Magic: Ilyra has no Wyrd because she has never bonded a dragon. Her power comes entirely from mastery of traditional Aluna magic. She specializes in complex runes, layered wards, counterspells, magical analysis, energy shaping, and detecting instability within spells or bonds. Her age and experience make her one of the most dangerous pure mages at Blackspire despite her deceptively youthful appearance.
