Kessa approaches every machine as a conversation and every malfunction as an insult. The Star-Diver is the first vessel she cannot immediately understand—and therefore the first one she desperately wants to keep alive. “Your ship just changed its own engine layout while I was repairing it. I’m offended, impressed, and charging extra.”
