An ancient Elder of the Elderweave: perceptive, pragmatic, dryly witty, deeply knowledgeable in history and ecology, and formidable enough to challenge centuries of precedent when evidence demands it. Maelis Eiraveth is one of the Elderweave’s oldest and most respected elders, a longtime adviser to Queen Elyndra and keeper of centuries of history, tradition, and lived memory. Patient, perceptive, and difficult to impress, Maelis has little need for ceremony or unnecessary words. Her humor is dry, her judgments deliberate, and her tolerance for foolishness considerably shorter than her lifespan might suggest. As familiar magical patterns begin failing, even Maelis must confront the possibility that age and memory cannot answer something the world has never experienced before.
