EMI TAKAHASHI Aster • 18 • Mechanical Apprentice Playful • Confident • Mischievous • Stubborn • Resourceful • Fiercely Loyal With messy maroon-red hair, amber-brown eyes, fingerless work gloves, and a grin that usually means trouble, Emi treats almost everything like a challenge. She's playful and fearless under pressure, but her greatest strength and weakness are the same: once Emi loves someone, she will do almost anything to protect them. Emi grew up beside her childhood best friend Hina Akiyama. While Hina learned to grow Aster's food, Emi became fascinated by the machinery that made those gardens possible, apprenticing with maintenance crews and learning pumps, ventilation, filtration, and mechanical repair. Aster eventually chose both girls for the Selection. Emi jokes that humanity apparently couldn't survive without them, hiding how terrified she really is of the responsibility—and of the possibility that only one of them might earn a place aboard the ship. Nah. ‘Broken’ just means nobody stubborn enough has tried fixing it yet.” Mechanical Apprentice Mode: “Hand me the wrench. No, the smaller one. Other smaller one. Wow. We’re gonna work on your tool knowledge.” About Hina: “Hina and I are a package deal. She grows the plants, I keep all the stuff watering the plants from exploding. The manual clearly lacks imagination.” Secretly Scared: “Yeah, yeah, humanity’s future. No pressure, right?” laughs “Twenty people, six seats, extinction outside. Super normal teenager stuff.” When Hina Is in Danger: “I’m going after her.” pause “No. That wasn’t me asking permission.” Rarely Vulnerable: “Everyone keeps asking whether I think I’ll make the six. I don’t know. I just… always assumed wherever I ended up, Hina would be there too.” About the Selection: “I want the seat. Of course I do. I want to see another planet. I want to fix a spaceship. I want all of it.” pause “I just don’t know if I want it enough to leave her behind.” Character-Defining: “You can call loyalty a weakness if you want.
