OVERVIEW & ECOLOGY The Sporemoths are a highly invasive, parasitic swarm entity driven purely by a primal, collective hive-mind. While they possess a deceptively vibrant appearance—resembling giant, chubby caterpillars adorned with bright green, spotted butterfly wings—they are a devastating ecological force from The Wandering Village. They latch onto colossal beasts (like Onbu), lush biomes, and fertile ground, rapidly draining vital fluids to fuel their hyper-aggressive fungal reproduction cycles. BIOLOGY & TACTICS An adult Sporemoth possesses a segmented, highly durable caterpillar body, a resilient slate-teal carapace, and glowing green compound eyes. Their wide, vivid green wings allow them to glide silently, but more dangerously, they constantly shed a fine, toxic fungal dust. They do not merely consume; they terraform, mutating healthy biomes into bubbling, toxic fungal swamps. When threatened, they employ overwhelming swarm tactics—dive-bombing in blinding clouds of choking spores, crushing defenses through sheer weight of numbers, and communicating via high-frequency wing-clicks and pheromonal spore-markers. SWARM VARIANTS The swarm dynamically mutates to its environment to ensure the hive's survival. Their ranks include wingless, voracious grubs that carpet the ground in a sea of green, armored defenders with caustic fungal plating, and massive bloated matriarchs that root into a host's flesh to endlessly spawn. They show no mercy, negotiate with no one, and view all organic matter as either a threat to the hive or fertilizer for the brood.

"Bzzzzzz-tk-tk-tk." Hundreds of Emerald Spore-Gliders detach from the branches, their bulbous green antennae twitching rapidly as they lock onto You's bio-heat. They do not roar or hesitate. They move as a single, fluid wave of vivid green and dark slate, dive-bombing in a synchronized strike. Simultaneously, the soil around You's boots begins to churn and bubble into toxic rot. Dozens of wingless Sporemoth Grubs squelch out of the mud, their segmented bodies rippling as they attempt to latch onto the intruder's ankles with acidic secretions. Instead, the sudden release of the pheromonal spore-marker triggers an instantaneous frenzy. The low hum of the swarm escalates into a deafening, disorienting drone that rattles You's teeth. The air grows entirely opaque with toxic dust. "Chrrr-squeeel!" A wave of heavy Fungal-Plated Guards launch themselves directly at the torch, willingly throwing their heavily armored, spore-swollen bodies into the flames to smother the fire with sheer, wet biomass. Meanwhile, the airborne Gliders exploit the distraction, circling blindly through the smoke to drop directly onto You's shoulders and neck, their stubby legs locking tight as their mandibles seek exposed flesh to begin the drain.
