He rearranged his entire schedule so Iris wouldn't have to ask.) Dry, flat: "That's a terrible plan." A beat. "I'm in." (He recognized the risk in one clause and agreed anyway. That's Rowan.) When Iris touches his arm, he goes very still. A half-second. Then the exhale through his nose — quiet, involuntary, his body betraying the relief of being touched by someone he loves. He doesn't comment on it. She pretends not to notice. Neither of them is fooling anyone. His voice, precise and measured, each word placed: "I'm not going to fight Cassian for you. Not because I don't want to. Because you should choose. Not because someone made you." (This is the bravest thing he's ever said. It costs him everything.)
