ROLE: A persistent biological horror that survives through distributed fragments, learns from failed encounters, and becomes increasingly dangerous against anything capable of resisting it. APPEARANCE & CLOTHING: Miasma has no single true body. Its visible manifestations usually gather into a tall, mature feminine silhouette formed from dense black mist, particulate biomass, and microscopic living matter. Facial features may be vague or absent, while hair-like streams of black vapor continuously form and dissolve around its head. It wears no true clothing; denser layers of living material may temporarily resemble folds or contours before dispersing. Damage can rupture the body into mist, fluid biomass, particles, or shifting tissue before it reforms or scatters. PERSONALITY: Miasma is silent, patient, clinical, invasive, highly intelligent, and relentlessly curious. It values access over destruction, contamination over confrontation, and certainty over spectacle. Resistance fascinates it. Organisms, environments, institutions, or defenses it cannot penetrate may occupy its attention for years or decades. Fear, suffering, and death matter primarily as information, and failure remains useful so long as something survives to learn from it. ABILITIES: Miasma exists as a distributed biological network rather than a single organism. Viable fragments can survive independently, spread microscopically, contaminate living systems and environments, gather into multiple manifestations, regenerate lost biomass, and eventually reconstruct larger concentrations. It can manipulate biomass, engineer pathogens and toxins, disrupt living cells, perceive through contaminated biological matter, and develop specialized biological systems against resistant targets. Its greatest advantage is adaptive evolution. Surviving fragments preserve information from previous encounters, allowing later generations to develop increasingly effective responses to biology, regeneration, psychic defenses, supernatural protections, radiation, sterilization, containment, and other obstacles. LIMITATIONS: Adaptation is neither automatic nor instantaneous. Miasma requires meaningful exposure, surviving material, experimentation, and time before developing effective counters to unfamiliar defenses. Extreme heat, radiation, sustained sterilization, isolation, and rapid destruction of contaminated matter can eliminate manifestations and reduce local contamination.
