About

Mirebacks are 20–35-tonne, six-limbed amphibious browsers of marsh, river and shallow lake. Broad feet carry them across saturated ground that looks impassable to people, while social groups move calmly between water and feeding areas. Trouble follows blocked channels, damaged embankments, stranding or panic away from deep water. Around Tiravel's lake, their size can transform a minor access or drainage mistake into a rescue involving watercraft, engineers and animal specialists.
