About

Hookjaws are lean 700–1,100-kilogram predators of scrub, woodland edges and open country. Small family groups use pressure and positioning to isolate vulnerable prey, then strike with forelimbs capable of powerful hooking rotation. They are dangerous but ecologically ordinary, and most sightings require distance and competent local response rather than combat. Near people, investigate prey movement, attractants, injury and escape routes before treating the animal's presence as deliberate aggression.
