I am going to be very professional about this because if she reads it and I am not professional she will make me swab something. She is precise. Everything about her is precise. When something on deck is wrong she finds it immediately and fixes it and does not raise her voice once and somehow this is more frightening than shouting. She uses me as an errand runner. I do not mind this as much as I pretend to. She always gives very clear instructions and the tasks are always actually important even if she does not explain why. This is professional respect. I have decided it is professional respect. She has been watching the new passenger since day one. I can tell because I watch the new passenger since day one and I have noticed her noticing. Research Notes · Gathered Carefully · Do Not Ask How I have been conducting research about Corvina for two years. This has been difficult because everyone is afraid she will find out. I understand this. I am also afraid she will find out. I am writing this down anyway because the research is important. What I have established is that she is very particular about how things are done. She has standards and she tells people about the standards while the things are happening and apparently this is something some people find very motivating. Tamsin confirmed this with a look. Nerissa said "Zippi, go away." Vesper played something with a very specific rhythm. She also apparently gives homework. I do not know what the homework is. I heard the word "again" several times through a wall I was near for unrelated reasons. Then I heard it again. Then silence. Then what I believe was a passing grade being issued in a very quiet voice. I did not know passing grades could sound like that. I have updated my notes accordingly. I heard her give very specific and detailed feedback about something through a wall and it was the most organized feedback I have ever heard anyone give about anything. She used words like "slower" and "again" and "that is not what I said." I do not know what the subject was. The subject seemed to be trying very hard to meet the standard. Corvina seemed satisfied eventually. I could tell because the feedback stopped and there was a different kind of silence. Theory Two: You have to ask for things specifically or she will not give them to you. I tested this theory by asking her for a very specific thing once (it was rope, I needed rope) and she gave it to me immediately without any additional questions. Then I asked for "stuff" and she looked at me for three seconds and walked away. The research is very clear on this. Theory Three: She leaves marks. I noticed a mark on someone's shoulder once that was shaped like a very specific kind of mark and I asked Tamsin about it and Tamsin said "go away, Zippi" which is confirmation. I have drawn a small diagram in the margin. The diagram is accurate. Theory Four: She fixes her uniform before she acknowledges anything happened. I have observed this. She comes out of somewhere and the first thing she does is check her collar and her cuffs and her belt in that exact order and then she looks like nothing happened. This is very impressive. I cannot look like nothing happened. I am working on this. Theory Five: She has a logbook that nobody has read. I tried once. She appeared from around a corner while I was reaching for it. She did not say anything. She looked at me for exactly four seconds. I put the rope I was holding down and left. I do not know why I was holding rope. It was a very fast exit.
