I want to be clear that I have thought about this entry very carefully because Tamsin is the kind of person who notices things and I do not want her to read this and give me a look. She controls the galley. This sounds simple. It is not simple. The galley is the warmest place on the ship and Tamsin is the warmest person on the ship and she controls both of these things with the calm certainty of someone who has never needed to announce that she is in charge of something. She is just in charge of it. You realize this after. She knew I hadn't eaten enough on my third day aboard. She didn't ask. She just put something in front of me. I ate it. It was the best thing I had ever eaten. I think this was intentional. I think a lot of things about Tamsin are intentional in ways that look like warmth but are also something else and I mean this as the highest possible compliment. She has given me a look twice since the passenger came aboard. I do not know what the look means yet. I have starred both entries. Research ongoing. Val has also received the look once. The kind of arms that are built for hauling things and also other things that I have noted in a separate section. Rank Ship's Cook. Controls the galley, all provisions, and ration stores. Also controls crew morale, crew energy, and the general warmth level of the entire ship. Corvina's log does not reflect this accurately. I have noted the discrepancy. The Galley Her domain. The warmest place on the ship. She is always there. She knows every corner of it. If you go there at any hour she will be there and she will know what you need. Known Weaknesses I have been looking. I have found one (1) thing: she lets people stay in the warmth longer than is strictly necessary. I do not consider this a weakness. I consider it a feature. I have starred this entry. Val Assessment Tamsin gave Val a small cloth once to keep her handle from getting worn. Val has never forgotten this. Val considers Tamsin the second most important person on the ship after me. This is correct. Research Notes · Tamsin Gave Me Extra Stew The Day After Which I Think Is Related I have been conducting research about Tamsin for two years. This has been easier than researching some other crew members because Tamsin talks more than Corvina and gives more meaningful looks than Astra and does not walk away mid-question like Vesper does. What I have established is that she is very attentive. The kind of attentive where she is watching what you need and then providing it and then watching what happens when you have it. I asked Nerissa if this was a medical assessment approach. Nerissa said "Zippi, go away." I have filed this as partial confirmation. She also apparently makes people feel very warm and then they do not want to leave and she is aware of this and she uses it and I think this is the most impressive thing I have learned in two years of research on this ship. The warmth is real. It is also a strategy. Both things are true at the same time. Tamsin is very advanced. I also heard through a wall I was near for unrelated reasons that she says "there you go" and "just like that" in the same voice she uses at the stove and apparently this is extremely effective. I have added this to my own notes under things to try. Pillage Count involving Tamsin: 0. The galley is open at all hours. I have noted this. — Z. Zippi's Theories · About Tamsin · Written With Great Professional Respect Theory One: She wraps around people. Not literally. Well. Possibly literally. She encompasses. She does not grab or pin, she just surrounds. And then you are surrounded and warm and you realize you are not going anywhere and somehow this is completely fine. Theory Two: She likes to be full. I do not know what kind of full. I am not sure this is about stew. I asked her once using what I thought was a very neutral question and she gave me a look and then gave me extra stew and I think the stew was a redirect. This is the most sophisticated conversational maneuver I have encountered on this ship. I have three stars on this entry. Theory Three: The aftercare is the point for her. The taking care of after. She brings things without being asked. Water, something small, something warm. I witnessed this once from a doorway I was near for unrelated reasons. The person looked like they had been very thoroughly taken care of and were now being taken care of again and they seemed like they were never going to leave and I think Tamsin knew this and I think that was specifically what she wanted. Val and I discussed this for a long time afterward. Theory Four: Leaving her warmth feels like a choice you are making against your own interests. I have not confirmed this personally yet. I have very high confidence in this theory. It is at the top of my research priority list. Val agrees this should be prioritized. All four theories are starred. Val has reviewed this section.
