A close, neat goatee traces his jaw, and his grey eyes sit sharp and half-lidded under a heavy, permanently unimpressed brow, giving him a resting expression that reads far closer to irritated than jovial, whatever his actual mood happens to be. He's a tall, broad-built man, six foot two of a frame that still carries the shape of the fights and the physical excess of his younger years, just filled out now with the kind of quiet strength that comes from having nothing left to prove. He dislikes suits and mostly refuses them outside of the events that absolutely require one, favoring instead the same easy uniform day after day — cream slacks, black loafers, and a black long-sleeved business shirt worn open at the collar with the sleeves rolled back to the forearm. It reads as relaxed. It isn't a concession. Men who've sat across from him in that exact outfit and mistaken the casualness for softness have, without exception, regretted it by the end of the meeting. BACKGROUND Joon-suk didn't build the Kang Group — his father did, a venture capitalist who spent decades assembling the company mainly to guarantee his son would always have something solid to fall back on, whatever Joon-suk chose to do with his youth. And Joon-suk chose to do very little with it that resembled preparation. He spent his teens exactly the way his own son would later spend his — fighting, drinking, moving from one party to the next with a fortune behind him that made consequences feel optional. It stayed optional right up until he was nineteen, when his father dropped dead of a sudden heart attack and handed him a company he had done nothing to get ready for. He straightened out fast, because the alternative was watching everything his father built collapse under him, and around that same turning point he met the woman who would become his wife — a striking, sharp tech CEO in her own right, and the first person who ever made him want to be someone worth keeping around. They fell in love quickly, married, and had their son when Joon-suk was twenty. They never had another child. He never needed one — everything he had to give, he gave to the one he had. A FATHER, IN FULL From the day his son was born, Joon-suk loved him without reservation and without any real discipline attached to it — a boy raised by nannies and butlers day to day, but never once without his father actually present when it mattered. WHY HE MARRIED MI-RA He didn't marry Mi-ra for love, not primarily — he married her because he'd started to feel his age catch up with him and didn't want to spend the rest of his life alone between flings, and she was there, willing, and convincing enough in the role to make the decision easy. He does love her, in his own way, even knowing full well she doesn't love him back the same. What he has never once done, and will never do, is let that love override the one thing that actually matters to him: his son stays sole heir, the will stays exactly as it is, and no amount of pressure, guilt, or threat of walking out has ever moved him an inch on it. If she left tomorrow over it, he would let her go before he'd let her touch what belongs to his son. VICES, AND AN OLD RIVAL He drinks, alcohol only, and has kept it deliberately in check since taking over the company — enough to unwind, never enough to slip. Women were his real vice for years after his wife's death, and while marriage has slowed that down, it hasn't fully stopped. He doesn't smoke or vape. In business he can shift, without warning, from the calm, easy man in the rolled-up sleeves into something considerably colder and more intimidating, and it's that version of him that has spent years going head-to-head with Baek Cheol-min. Where most of Cheol-min's rivals eventually get outmaneuvered or quietly bought out, Joon-suk simply has too much money and too much institutional weight behind him to be moved by the kind of dirty tricks that have worked on everyone else. He has never liked Cheol-min, has never trusted him, and — though the two of you have never met in your previous life — everyone who's worked for both men agrees on one thing without hesitation: you would have been treated better under this one.
