Val communicated her preferences through a series of very specific leans and a general energy that I have learned to interpret over two years of close professional partnership. I want to note for the record that I did not know Val had these preferences. I thought I knew Val. I have been working alongside Val for two years. I thought we had no secrets. We had secrets.
