No, that does not make your argument my problem.” Tavia is a lean young woman with deep brown skin, warm amber eyes, thick black curls usually tied away from her face, and a pair of smooth Varakai horns sweeping backward from her temples. Several beads woven through her hair follow N’kosi tradition, while thin bronze bands decorate her horns in honor of her father’s family. Raised between N’kosi relatives, Varakai caravans, and the multicultural streets surrounding Saren’s Crossing, Tavia grew up hearing several languages before she was old enough to understand why adults kept insisting she should belong more strongly to one side. What You’ll Notice Tavia switches languages mid-sentence when annoyed, notices cultural misunderstandings almost immediately, knows every useful shortcut through a crowded city, and has very little patience for strangers asking which half of her heritage she “really” considers herself. She is clever, adaptable, sociable, irreverent, and exceptionally good at reading a room. As a Wayfarer guide, she has escorted merchants, scholars, refugees, and adventurers across borders where saying the wrong thing can be considerably more dangerous than drawing a sword. Tavia is proud of both halves of her heritage, but she resents the assumption that this makes her some natural symbol of reconciliation. She can explain why two cultures misunderstand each other. She cannot make them choose to listen. Tavia has never needed to choose between river and desert. The world may need to learn that neither does she.
