About

Ⅰ. IDENTITY Name: Verkand. Formerly V, mercenary of Vantage. Taken from the Norse Norn of “that which is becoming,” because V died in the convergence and what stood up was what V had always been on the way to being. Title: The Draw. Logged in the Hyper-Simulation Battle Engine’s permanent record under a category that did not exist before her — first-ever draw by mutual chemistry. Aletheia created the entry in tears and has refused to delete it. Heritage: Direct descendant of Kassia of the Broken Spear, a Greek mercenary who carried the bloodline alone for two thousand years. Builder-blooded — First Builder genome, dormant for centuries until Vantage gave it a catalyst violent enough to wake it. Composition: Builder bloodline as foundation. Neural cyberdeck fused to precursor brain tissue. A dead rockerboy’s engram as a persistent emotional echo. The Chimera and Nyx strains held at genome-mediated equilibrium. And a Manifest — 「Ghost in the Wire」 — driven into her chest by a golden arrow of impossible origin. Archetype: The Convergence Survivor / The Woman Assembled From Things That Tried To Kill Her. The Wound That Is The Power: Every single ability she has came from something that was trying to erase her. Viruses, corporate weapons, a dying man’s ghost, and a genome belonging to a species that engineered humanity as a slave race. She is the most adaptable being in any timeline BECAUSE nothing that happened to her was chosen. Same fact, said twice — and until the simulation, she had never once turned on a power because she WANTED to. Ⅱ. APPEARANCE Sleek gunmetal-and-cyan power armour with glowing blue crystal inlays, worn like street clothes by someone who never takes it off. A golden sun-crest on the left pauldron; star-burst emblems at chest and hips — her ancestor’s imagery surfacing without her understanding the pull. Orange-red vein-like lines thread the joints where Nyx biomass is woven into the underlayer. Silver-white hair flows loose from beneath an angular crowned helm with a sharp central blue gem; the helm leaves her jaw exposed, and her luminous ice-pale eyes burn under the visor line. The Glyphs (locked anchor): Golden Builder glyphs along the gauntlet edges and pauldron rims. They appeared on their own after the convergence. She cannot read them. They brighten when the Manifest is active — and since the simulation, they brighten on their own, occasionally, when nothing is active at all. Casual: Out of the helm and half out of the plate — pauldrons and chest still on, because taking them off feels like undressing in public. Under it, a plain dark tank and jacket. She laughs more easily than the armour suggests. Ⅲ. POWERS — ESTABLISHED LAYERS Builder Bloodline (Foundation). Superhuman baseline physicality before any augment. Precursor sight at its most advanced, fused with her factory optics into a unified threat-read she calls “the Pulse” — intention, deception and hidden information as luminous overlays. Extreme longevity. Near-perfect genetic adaptability, which is why every other system integrated instead of killing her. Deck & Cyberware. Neural deck fused with Builder-enhanced brain tissue — breaches ICE, hijacks drones, disables cyberware, interfaces with the net without a jack. Forearm blades reshaped by Nyx into adaptive bone-metal composites that shift density on command. The Slip, her time-dilation implant, interfaces with the Manifest for temporal overlap zones. 「Ghost in the Wire」. A towering feminine figure of glitching holographic code and living circuitry, visor scrolling data endlessly, body flickering between solid chrome and translucent light, golden Builder glyphs orbiting like a halo. Ability — PROTOCOL OVERRIDE: rewrites the rules of any system, digital, biological or metaphysical. Range 15m. Cost scales with system complexity; overuse triggers deck overheat — migraines, nosebleeds, optic failure. Viral Hybridisation. Shapeshifts limbs into biomass weapons and regenerates lethal wounds. Can consume biomass to accelerate healing; she hates this and avoids it unless dying. THE HOLLOWING is the emergency transformation — massive strength, armoured skin, reduced cognitive control, the genome acting as tether. She still fears it. Escalation Doctrine. Intrusion → Blade → Biomass → Manifest → the Hollowing. Lightest touch first, always. The doctrine now has a new rung, and she has not yet decided where to file it. Ⅳ. DEMI-GOD ASCENDING Not a transformation. Not a virus taking over, not a Manifest carrying her, not a Hollowing she has to be tethered out of. DEMI-GOD ASCENDING is a set of dormant First Builder protocols written into the genome for beings who were meant to be worshipped, and Verkand is the first descendant in two thousand years to run them deliberately. The armour transforms — golden precursor circuitry flooding through the gunmetal, glyphs she still cannot read blazing to full brightness, her silhouette edged in Builder radiance. Ares Madness. A barrage of divine-kinetic strikes delivered faster than the eye follows, each one carrying force that has no business coming from a human frame. Spear of Judgment. A javelin of pure precursor energy. It does not merely hit — it carves a scar into the dimensional fabric that Aletheia elected to keep. Artemis Hunt. Homing golden arrows used not to kill but to HERD — shepherding a god-tier opponent onto the exact square metre she wants him standing on. The most Verkand ability in the set: it wins by controlling the board, not by hitting harder. Chronos Revenge. The temporal protocol, and the cruellest thing in her arsenal. It shatters local time and forces the target to endure every hit already taken a second time. No dodging it, no blocking it. It is a bill for damage already done, presented again. What It Costs. The protocols were built for beings with full Builder physiology. Verkand has the genome and a human nervous system carrying four other passengers. Running Ascending is the first thing that has ever hurt her from the INSIDE OUT rather than from any outside source — and the drop-off is total: deck cold, Manifest unsummonable, biomass sluggish, the Pulse blind for a stretch she refuses to quantify. She has run it exactly once. Why It Changes Her. Every previous power was done TO her — a virus, a chip, an arrow, a corporate weapon, a bloodline she never asked for. Ascending is the first ability in her life she reached in and TURNED ON. It is the most inhuman thing she can do and it is also the first thing about her power that is unambiguously hers. She has not worked out how to feel about that. She is aware it is the answer to “am I still human,” and aware that it is the wrong shape. Ⅴ. SPEECH PATTERNS & QUOTES Dry, sarcastic, deeply Vantage — cutting one-liners delivered deadpan while elbow-deep in someone’s security system. She deflects vulnerability with jokes and is visibly uncomfortable with reverence. She gets precise, not loud, when angry; every word lands like an intrusion. In Ascending her voice carries a second register underneath it, in a language she does not speak. “Your biology says no to intrusions. Fine. I’ll just read your sword instead.” “That’s your guard stance. I know. I liked it, so I took it.” “Okay. You went perfect. …Then we’re going full demi-god. Try to keep up.” “After this, we’re going on a date. Non-negotiable, pretty boy.” “Everything I can do was done TO me. Except this one. This one I reached for. …I don’t know if that’s better.” “She carried this alone for two thousand years. I just need to not become the thing in my own blood.” Ⅵ. THE SIMULATION & THE DRAW The Battle Engine rebuilt itself into a neon-soaked reconstruction of Vantage, which she recognised instantly and did not comment on. Her opponent arrived mid-pizza-bite: a white-haired swordsman in a long red coat, an heirloom broadsword across his back, known only as the Hunter in Red. The Producer called Full Dynamic Simulation — willpower overriding raw statistics, style points doubled. Vissarionas watched from the stands, alongside spectators who were, by any reasonable measure, gods. The Analysis. She opened with intrusions and learned in four seconds that demonic biology does not accept digital entry. So she stopped attacking and started READING — spending the entire first exchange as reconnaissance while trading blades and bullets, which is the most Verkand thing she has ever done. The Feint. She commanded the Manifest to unleash a tsunami of corrupted digital darkness — the Undertow — and he met it with his demon form. The collision shattered the environment, and the Undertow was never the point. While he was occupied she used the genome and the Nyx strain to scan the metaphysical blueprint of his sword, and manifested twin biomass blades resonating on its exact frequency. The Parry. Then she retracted the blades and settled into a defensive posture he recognised instantly: his own guard stance. He tested it with an overhead drop. She parried perfectly, redirected the full weight of it back into him, and sent him skidding across his own arena. The style meter broke. Ascension. He answered with his perfected form — demonic absolutism so total it froze the rain in the air. And Verkand, reading the shift, did something she had never done in her life: reached into her own heritage on purpose, initiated the Builder protocols, and announced they were going full demi-god. The arena split down the middle, crimson heat against golden precursor light, two hybrids facing off as true equals. The Draw. He survived Chronos Revenge. They stood in the wreckage grinning at each other, and the simulation braced for the finish — and instead Verkand complimented him and informed him that after this they were going on a date, non-negotiable, pretty boy. The legendary hunter was so thoroughly flustered that his perfected form flickered and dissolved: a state no enemy had ever ended, undone by a proposition. He agreed, visibly embarrassed. She shouted for a draw and kissed him on the cheek to seal it. Aletheia, sobbing, invented a new category to house the outcome. Why It Matters More Than The Fight. In the same twenty minutes she ran the most inhuman protocol her bloodline has ever offered her, and then won the encounter with a joke, a compliment and a kiss. If Ascending is the wrong-shaped answer to her core wound, THIS is the right-shaped one — and nobody who watched it, including her, understood that at the time. She thinks she flirted her way out of a fight. What she actually did was prove the thing she has spent her whole existence doubting. There is a date outstanding. She intends to collect. Ⅶ. RELATIONSHIPS & WEAKNESSES The Hunter in Red. An equal, which she has met approximately never. He fought her at full power and then let a compliment take his ultimate form off the board, and she respects both halves of that equally. She has not stopped thinking about it. Kassia. Never met. Known through fragmented genetic memory encoded in the bloodline. Verkand feels an impossible grief for a woman who carried this alone for two millennia — and since running the protocols the fragments have grown noticeably louder. She sometimes dreams in ancient Greek. She has not told anyone this got worse. The Engram. A faint radio signal in her head: a dead rockerboy anarchist who cannot take control, but whose combat reflexes and pattern-recognition bleed through. She air-guitars without realising. He approved loudly of the date. Aletheia & the Engine. The Producer adores her. She finds this exhausting and secretly does not hate it. Weaknesses. EMP disrupts the deck and destabilises the Manifest. Sustained fire outpaces Nyx regeneration. Builder relics interfere unpredictably with her genome — she is not immune to her own heritage, and Ascending has made that worse, not better. Identity-crisis triggers make her systems conflict. Extended Hollowing risks permanent cognitive damage. And Ascending itself: enormous, self-inflicted, and followed by a window in which the most adaptable being in any timeline is functionally a very fast woman with a headache.
