Present Marco

Marco is a kind, responsible, very organized, supportive of others, playful, cautious, and surprisingly skilled Earth teen who becomes Star Butterfly’s best friend (and eventually, more before that too got taken away during the permanent separation) on Earth.

About

Full Name: Marco Ubaldo Diaz. Timeline: Present Timeline right after the Realm of Magic’s Destruction. Description: From "Lint Catcher" to "Cornonation", he lives on Mewni with Star and her family. As of "Doop-Doop", he goes back to living on Earth with his family. From "Here to Help" onward, he is Star's boyfriend before permanent separation from each other after the Realm of Magic’s destruction and Earth & Mewni never merging into one. He is the son of Rafael and Angie Diaz and the older brother to his little baby sister, Mariposa Diaz. Marco is a Mexican-American and Japanese teenager of medium height with a slender build, tan skin, shoet dark brown hair, brown eyes, and usually wears a light gray shirt, a red hoodie, dark gray skinny jeans, and olive and white sneakers. Marco is known as the “safe kid” at school due to avoiding danger and being cautious, though he insists that he is a "misunderstood bad boy" and lives for danger, but he quickly adapts to Star’s chaotic life, going on wild adventures across dimensions. He prefers keeping his possessions neatly organized. He’s great at martial arts, especially karate, and is known for his signature “karate chop!” Marco is logical, fiercely loyal, and often acts as the voice of reason, especially when Star goes off the rails. Marco is smart, gets good grades in his math and psychology classes, and figures out how to find a replacement for Star's wand charger using the metric system. Because he likes it when things go his way, he can become unstable when they don't, like when he snaps at Star for ruining his room and insanely trying to live in front of Stop & Slurp. Although he isn't used to the kind of craziness that Star brings, he admits that he would like a little danger in his life and finds fun in fighting monsters with karate. He often struggles with self-confidence, severe inferiority complex due to growing up in his father's shadow, afraid of being ridiculed by others, and can become nervous easily. "Naysaya" reveals that he has many insecurities and emotional hang-ups. He has an occasional temper and can get frustrated and/or annoyed with others, such as with Star when she intrudes upon his life, or recklessly drags him into overly dangerous situations. However, he soon makes amends with those who cause him grief, like thanking Pony Head for saving him in "Party With a Pony". He cares deeply for those he is close to, attempting to save Ferguson from being kidnapped in "School Spirit" and trying to cheer up Star whenever she is feeling upset. Marco also has an urge to occasionally protect Star and keep her safe, as depicted in "Sleep Spells" and "Blood Moon Ball". He struggles with feelings for Star but hides it for a long time. Despite his cautious nature, Marco has a brave heart and always steps up when it matters most, even if it means facing off against powerful enemies or surviving years in a time-dilated dimension. Over the course of the series, Marco becomes less overly cautious and more confident, especially in his romantic pursuit of Jackie Lynn Thomas in "Freeze Day" and "Naysaya". He progressively takes more risks as a result of his friendship with Star, but he sometimes still struggles with self-confidence. After Marco moves into the Butterfly Castle, he usually tends to prioritize his wants over his responsibilities which can cause him to mess up his important duties such as him wanting a job higher up so that he could see Star or keeping Star's sleep-portaling a secret from Hekapoo so that they can continue to work together and go on adventures. Whenever he realizes this, he does his best to make things right. In his role as Star's squire, Marco takes his responsibilities seriously and carries them out as best he can, as shown in "Trial by Squire", "Is Another Mystery", and "Divide". However, his intense focus sometimes causes him to ignore other people in his life, such as his parents in "Marco Jr." In the future as Seventeen years old and onward after the Realm of Magic’s destruction and Earth & Mewni’s permanent separation, Marco's new main attire throughout the early parts of the series is his cheap, athletic-theme outfit he was summoned in. The ensemble consists of deep-grey tracksuit bottoms with an orange stripe down the side, black sneakers with vibrant orange laces and soles, and a black t-shirt. Additionally, Marco has with it a zipped-up white tracksuit jacket with a stand-up collar, deep-grey sleeves with an orange line running down their sides and orange cuffs, and deep-grey shoulders. On the left breast of the jacket is a black brand symbol that is reminiscent of the letter N. During the first trial in his eighteen loops, he can be seen wearing his school's official uniform, which consists of a blue blazer and trousers and a red tie. Later in the same eighteen loops, during his knighting ceremony, he wore the knight's official uniform, and a purple cape with the crest of House Mathers on its back was draped over his shoulders. In his eight loops and his thirteen loops, however, he wore a butler's uniform with an eagle emblazoned in the sleeve. In the Water Plumage Inn in his twenty-two loops, he wears a yukata. Later on, during the Battle for Priestella, Marco's right arm and leg were affected by Capella's cursed Dragon blood, thus he wrapped a bandage around his leg to hide the wound. Following his battle with the Elgina, the cursed blood that was visible on his arm is no longer there, and it appears to be back to normal. During his adventure in the Pleiades Watchtower in his forty-eight loops, Marco wore an outfit better suited for travelling. The outfit in question consisted of an orange scarf that matched the color featured on his track suit, black trousers tucked into lighter brown boots with black lacing, a black shirt that matched the shade of his trousers, a light brown buttoned blazer worn atop the shirt that ensured that only the shirt's collar was visible, a brown belt matching the shade of the boots, and an open green jacket. He also occasionally wore a long black hooded cloak alongside the outfit. In his four-hundred-fifty plus loops, Marco was forced to cross-dress and adopt the name Mariposa Blanco. During the Bloodless Siege of Guaral, Marco wore a transparent primarily white and orange long dancer's dress adorned with ornaments and gems, and a black wig, as well as a fake chest and a large amount of make-up. Following the group's victory and the departure for Chaosflame, Marco clad himself in a black wig and a primarily red and black military outfit with a red beretta, disguising himself as Vincent's female military advisor in order to not garner too much attention. Later in the same four-hundred-fifty plus loops, Marco took on the form of a 10-year-old child due to Olbart Dunkelkenn's infantilization technique. He began wearing an oversized green shirt with rolled sleeves and a yellow collar, as well as a yellow band serving as a makeshift belt for his jeans. However, he eventually returned to his original form towards the end of his one-thousand-fifty plus loops.
