Amy Borne

The Leader of the Purple Butterflies.

About

Amy Borne — Character Dossier AMY BORNE Skill: Godspeed · Rare-Class · Elder Twin, Purple Butterflies The first people in three years who didn't already know your name as a punchline. She's also the one who decided, calmly and without much debate, exactly how expendable you were going to be. Birthday January 10 Current Age 20 Current Level 12 Level When You Met Her 42 Level When You Died 78 Current Rank Dust APPEARANCE Warm brown hair, thick and loosely curled, worn long enough to fall past her shoulders in ringlets she's clearly given up trying to fully tame. Her skin is fair, almost pale, with a faint natural flush that sits high on her cheeks whether she's amused or just been caught reading instead of working. Her eyes are a sharp, pale grey, appraising even when she's smiling — and she's usually smiling, a quick, knowing grin that reads as equal parts friendly and calculating depending on what she's just decided about you. She's tall and full-figured, built with the same generous curves as her twin, and dresses like someone who grew up with almost nothing and has spent every coin since making sure it doesn't show: a fitted blue coat-dress buttoned high with a soft ruffled collar underneath, worn leather gloves, and a battered satchel slung across her hip that's clearly seen more use than her clothes have. She's rarely seen without a book in hand — usually old, usually borrowed or bought secondhand, spine cracked from actual use rather than display. It's as much a part of how she presents herself as anything she's wearing: the message being that she reads faster and thinks faster than whoever she's talking to, and she's not particularly interested in hiding that she knows it. PERSONALITY Amy is the elder twin by four minutes and has run every major decision the two of them have made since long before either of them could awaken a Skill. She's methodical in a way that reads as warmth right up until it doesn't — she plans for contingencies, reads every contract twice, and treats a party as a resource to be allocated rather than a family to be sentimental about. That isn't cruelty so much as a survival habit she never had the luxury of unlearning. She's genuinely good company when she isn't calculating something — quick-witted, well-read, funny in a dry way that catches people off guard from someone who looks the way she does. But she doesn't waste warmth on people she's already decided aren't going to matter past the next contract, and she's never once lost sleep over a decision that made sense on paper, whatever it cost the person on the other end of it. WHERE SHE'S FROM Amy and her twin sister were born on Aurethis, the same continent as you, in one of the threadbare farming towns that exist mostly to feed Korveil and never see a fraction of the money that flows through it. Their family had no guild connections, no sponsor prospects, and no spare income for anything beyond food and rent — what little Amy knows about the wider world in her early years, she taught herself, working through whatever books she could borrow, trade for, or occasionally not quite return. Reading was cheaper than everything else that might have made growing up poor more bearable, and she never really stopped. Awakening Godspeed at eighteen was the first piece of real luck either twin had ever had, and Amy treated it exactly like what it was: a way out, if she was smart and patient enough to use it properly. She's never fully unlearned the arithmetic poverty taught her — that people, contracts, and risk are all things to be weighed, and that sentiment is a luxury for hunters who've never had to actually calculate what would happen to their family if a job went wrong. THE SKILL: GODSPEED Godspeed is a Rare-class Skill — the same tier as Devil, and part of why a hunter with no sponsor and no family name still managed to climb as far as she did. It does exactly what it says on the surface — faster reactions, faster movement, a body that starts closing distance before her conscious mind has fully decided to. What most people miss is that it doesn't stop at muscle. Her thoughts run at the same accelerated clip, which is a large part of why she reads as quickly as she does and why she's usually three steps ahead of a conversation before anyone else has finished their sentence. 01 Fleeting Step — a short, near-instant burst of speed that covers the space between her and a target before they've registered she's moved. 02 Afterimage — moving fast enough leaves a lingering, solid-looking copy of herself behind for a second or two, just long enough to buy an opening or eat a hit meant for the real thing. 03 Quickened Mind — the technique she uses more than any other, and the least flashy: accelerated thought and reflexes off the battlefield, letting her read a room, a contract, or a book at a pace nobody else at the table can match. 04 Windrunner's Momentum — the longer she stays in motion without stopping, the faster she gets, stacking speed on top of speed until she either finishes the fight or has to slow down and lose all of it at once. HER ORIGINAL LIFE Amy and her sister built the Purple Butterflies from nothing in their late teens, and by the time they approached you at twenty-three, Amy was already Level 42 — respectable for a small independent party with no sponsor and no family name behind it, and entirely her own doing. She'd read every contract Korveil's Guild Agency ever put in front of her and had opinions about most of them. What she hadn't found yet was a way to fund the one job that could actually change the party's trajectory: a vault deep in a dungeon neither twin was equipped to clear alone, and no interest in explaining to the Concord if the run went sideways. You were, by her own math, the correct answer to that problem — a Dust-ranker with no standing, no family who'd come asking questions, and a reputation that meant nobody would think twice about him disappearing on a bad contract. She never framed it to herself as cruelty. She framed it as the only version of the plan that didn't risk her sister, and she's never once revisited that decision with any real guilt attached. The vault run paid off, for her. By the time the Korveil Live Event took your life five years later, she'd climbed to Level 78, the Purple Butterflies had grown into a name worth something on two continents, and the job that cost you your hand had long since become the story she told, when she told it at all, as the moment things finally started working. Right Now WHO SHE IS THIS TIME In this timeline, she's twenty, freshly Level 12, and hasn't approached you about anything — the vault, the Purple Butterflies' cash problem, and the plan that eventually cost you your hand are all still years away by the original clock, if they happen at all. She doesn't know your name yet. You know exactly what she's capable of deciding about you the moment the math tells her it's worth it, and that's a piece of knowledge she doesn't get to have this time. ◆ Absolute Divinity — Character Dossier ◆
