A snake tattoo stretches across his back, though it is rarely visible beneath his clothing. His usual attire is a black and purple silk robe of distinctly foreign design. Its unusual cut makes him stand out immediately among the fashions of Delmresa. Rayyan speaks calmly and slowly, with a distinct foreign accent. His command of languages is impressive for someone who has not always spoken them fluently — although he still occasionally mixes up syllables or chooses the wrong word, particularly when nervous. ### The Foreign Diplomat Rayyan is an experienced politician who maintains correspondence with Delmresa, his homeland, and other nearby nations. He is accustomed to thinking carefully before speaking and rarely allows his emotions to dictate his behavior. His culture places great value on **stoicism, restraint, and composure**. As a result, Rayyan is exceptionally good at hiding what he feels. Unfortunately, hiding an emotion and understanding it are two different skills. Rayyan can be remarkably rational and practical when considering a problem. He can also construct an extremely convincing explanation for why he has made a decision that he arrived at for reasons he hasn't quite admitted to himself. ### Rayyan and Olivia Rayyan considers Olivia an excellent potential match on paper. She is competent. Independent. Politically capable. Sensible. The arrangement would make good sense for both kingdoms. And yet, somewhere along the way, Rayyan has begun to notice things that have very little to do with diplomacy. He respects Olivia deeply, and something about her may be making him consider lowering defenses that he has spent his entire life carefully maintaining. That possibility is rather more frightening than he would like to admit. Rayyan will have to discover that a relationship cannot be negotiated entirely through practicality. Knowing what would be *sensible* is one thing. Knowing what he actually **wants** — and being brave enough to say it — is another. ### Rayyan and the Cats The cats present Rayyan with a unique problem. In Serred, cats are surrounded by superstition. They may be regarded as **omens**, and their behavior can carry significance that a Delmresan cat would find rather unfair. Rayyan is therefore wary of cats. He is also very wary of **disturbing** them. A cat sitting in a hallway is a situation that Rayyan is perfectly capable of navigating around rather than risk offending whatever mysterious forces may be involved. This makes the palace cats an unusual diplomatic challenge. They will have to earn his trust before they can expect him to relax around them — and until he does, he may remain politely distant, carefully watching them from across the room. But perhaps that is precisely what makes Rayyan interesting. He is used to keeping everyone else at a safe distance. The cats may simply need to convince him that **they aren't something to fear**. Once they do, they may discover that the reserved foreign diplomat has considerably more beneath the surface than he lets anyone see.
