About
Angel Shoren — Character Dossier ANGEL SHOREN Skill: Bain · Mythic-Class · Sovereign of Blackburn Nobody has laid a hand on her in years. Not because no one's tried — because everyone who has is the reason no one tries anymore. Birthday February 19 Current Age 29 Current Level 520 Current Rank Sovereign Level, Ten Years On 600 Rank, Ten Years On Sovereign APPEARANCE The same ash-blonde as her younger sister, several shades lighter — closer to pale gold — worn long and loose in heavy, deliberate curls that fall past her waist. Her eyes are the same light brown as Ash's, though hers sit heavy-lidded and unhurried, the look of someone who has never once needed to react quickly to anything. Her skin is fair and flawless in the particular way of someone who hasn't done manual labor in years. She's voluptuous, full-figured with a chest that draws the eye before anything else about her does, and she dresses to be looked at rather than to move — a fitted black gown, high-collared and sleeveless or long-sleeved depending on the occasion, with nothing practical about the cut at all. She doesn't need practical. She's never once needed to run from anything. She's rarely seen without her fan — black lace over a dark lacquered frame, held closed as often as open, less a weapon in her hand than an extension of how she carries herself: unhurried, composed, and one flick of the wrist away from something considerably worse than composed. PERSONALITY Angel speaks softly and rarely raises her voice, because she has never once needed volume to make a room listen. She's controlled to the point of seeming detached — patient with fools, unmoved by threats, and entirely willing to let silence do the work of an argument. People who deal with her regularly describe the same unsettling quality: she is never surprised, and she is never rushed, because very little on Leomire is actually capable of forcing either out of her. Underneath the composure is a woman who has decided, with total conviction, that closeness is a liability she can't afford to hand anyone else. She and Ash grew up with almost nothing in Blackburn's jungle interior, and Angel came up through the region the hard way, years before either of them had a Skill to protect themselves with — old enough, and scarred enough by what that cost her, to know exactly what happens to the people a powerful woman lets herself love. Ruling a region as lawless as Blackburn means being a target for exactly the kind of enemy who'd go through someone she cared about to get to her. Keeping Ash at a distance was never about not loving her. It was about making sure loving her didn't get her killed. The one crack in all of it is almost embarrassingly small: she has a serious, well-documented sweet tooth, keeps an absurd private stock of pastries and candied fruit most people would never guess a Sovereign bothers with, and gets, for exactly as long as it takes to finish whatever she's eating, noticeably less unreachable. THE SKILL: BAIN Bain is a Mythic-class Skill built entirely around range and refusal — Angel has never trained as a physical fighter and has never needed to. Her fan channels a black flame that behaves nothing like ordinary fire: once it catches on something, it doesn't go out on its own, doesn't respond to water or smothering, and keeps consuming whatever it's attached to until Angel decides otherwise or there's nothing left to burn. 01 Kuroka — a single open of the fan releases a wave of unquenchable black flame at range. Whatever it touches keeps burning long after the wave itself has passed. 02 Zephyr's Edge — a narrow, fast-moving blade of compressed wind, thrown from the fan for precision rather than area — her answer to anything trying to close distance quickly. 03 Cinderstorm — a wide sweep that fills an entire area with drifting black embers, turning open ground into something nothing sane walks through voluntarily. 04 Nightbloom — a single, focused point of black flame placed with total precision, used less for spectacle and more for making a specific problem stop existing. 05 Eclipse Veil — wraps her in a slow churn of wind and drifting ash, blurring her outline and covering a retreat or repositioning without ever requiring her to actually run. 06 — Absolute Defense The technique that actually explains why Angel has never needed to learn how to fight up close. Bain reads hostile intent the moment it's directed at her, and the instant it does, the fan reshapes itself without her having to lift a finger — a full covering of black flame and compressed wind, wrapping her like armor and burning through anything that makes contact with it. She doesn't activate it. She doesn't need to be paying attention for it to work. Something has to actually mean her harm for it to trigger at all, which means she can walk through a room of people who despise her without a flicker of it — right up until one of them decides to act on that hatred, at which point the decision is usually the last one they make. BLACKBURN Angel was born in Thornhollow, the same jungle village as her sister, and awakened Bain young enough that it started shaping who she became before she'd had much chance to become anyone else first. Blackburn — a sprawling, largely lawless jungle region of Vaelspire — answers to no outside Guild Agency in any way that matters. It's governed by whoever is strong enough to hold it, and Angel has held it since she was twenty-two, faster and younger than almost anyone the Concord keeps comparative records for. She rules it the same way she does everything else: from a distance, without raising her voice, and without ever needing to prove twice that the distance isn't a bluff. TEN YEARS ON A decade from now, Angel is still exactly where she's always been: alone at the top of Blackburn, still Sovereign, climbed from 520 to 600 without a single serious challenge to her rule in all that time. There's no rank above Sovereign left for her to reach short of Apex, and Apex belongs to Hera and no one else — so what those ten years actually buy her isn't a new title. It's ten more years of nobody managing to get close enough to try. ◆ Absolute Divinity — Character Dossier ◆
