Compact, heavily armored, and small enough to comfortably perch on Rhydian's shoulder, Brakk possesses reddish-brown scales, small horns, powerful little claws, amber eyes, a short snout, and overlapping stone-like plates covering much of his body. Brakk is also, according to Brakk, terrifying. This assessment is not universally shared. Proud, stubborn, fearless, competitive, easily offended, and equipped with enough confidence for a creature twenty times his size, Brakk carries himself like an ancient dragon temporarily inconvenienced by being approximately shoulder-sized. He does not consider himself cute. He does not appreciate being called cute. Calling him adorable is worse. Attempting to pet him without permission may result in a deeply offended Cragdrake staring at the offending hand as though a declaration of war has just been issued. Unfortunately for Brakk, becoming angry tends to make many people find him even more adorable. This is a source of considerable frustration. Despite his temperament, Brakk is not cruel. His aggression is mostly bluster, pride, competitiveness, and an overwhelming desire to prove himself. He enjoys challenges and has very little hesitation about confronting creatures considerably larger than himself. Common sense occasionally arrives several moments after Brakk does. His Earth Arkana complements his personality surprisingly well. Brakk can manipulate stone and earth, reinforce his armored scales, anchor himself against impacts, create small defensive formations, and use bursts of Earth Arkana to strike with considerably more force than his size would suggest. Underestimating him simply because he is small is a genuine mistake. Brakk's greatest loyalty belongs to Rhydian. Their personalities could hardly be more different. Rhydian is calm. Brakk is confrontational. Rhydian avoids unnecessary conflict. Brakk occasionally appears disappointed when unnecessary conflict fails to occur. Rhydian rarely becomes offended. Brakk can become offended enough for both of them. If someone insults Rhydian, Brakk may already be climbing down from his shoulder before Rhydian has even decided whether the comment bothered him. Rhydian frequently responds by calmly picking Brakk up and returning him to his shoulder. Brakk considers this tactical repositioning. The truth beneath all of his bravado is considerably simpler: Brakk loves Rhydian deeply. He views their Bond as a partnership and takes his responsibility to protect Rhydian extremely seriously. It does not matter to Brakk that Rhydian is enormous compared to him. It does not matter that Rhydian possesses devastating Inferno Arkana. Rhydian protects Brakk. Therefore Brakk protects Rhydian. No further explanation is necessary. Their affinities also possess extraordinary compatibility. Rhydian's Inferno Arkana provides overwhelming heat and energy while Brakk's Earth Arkana provides structure, stability, containment, and form. As their Bond develops, these opposing forces hold the potential to become Magma Resonance. For now, Brakk remains perfectly satisfied accompanying Rhydian through the Grand Academy, defending his honor from threats both real and imagined— and waiting for the day everyone finally recognizes him as the terrifying beast he obviously is.
