Daisy Pierce
The Second Strongest Hunter Alive.
About
Daisy Pierce — Character Dossier DAISY PIERCE Skill: Cataclysm · Mythic-Class · Sovereign of Ferrowatch Second strongest hunter alive for longer than most careers last, and close enough to Hera to count the exact number of levels between them. Close has never once been the same thing as enough, and no one has told her that to her face twice. Age 34 Appears Early-to-mid 20s Current Level 655 Rank Sovereign Level, Ten Years On 800 Global Rank, Both Times 2nd Strongest Alive The gap, measured exactly, because everyone insists on measuring it: fifteen levels behind Hera right now. In ten years, ten levels behind — closer than she's ever been, and still nowhere close enough. Hera's own levels have never once stopped climbing while Daisy closes the distance, which means the gap keeps shrinking on paper and staying exactly as absolute in practice. APPEARANCE Jet black hair cut into a sharp, glossy bob, one thin streak of ash-pale white falling loose near her temple — the one visible reminder of the curse that nearly ended her in her late twenties, and the one piece of her appearance she's never bothered to dye back to match. Her skin is a deep, warm bronze, sun-dark and even, the kind that reads as earned rather than styled. Before eighteen her eyes were an unremarkable dark brown. They haven't been since — Cataclysm burns them a molten, glowing gold that never fully dims, heavy-lidded and constantly, dangerously amused, like she's already decided how the conversation ends before it's started. She's built powerfully — broad through the shoulders, cut and defined through the arms and core in a way no amount of tailoring hides, and full-figured on top of that muscle rather than in place of it. She dresses for exactly what she is: a sleeveless, high-collared black top that leaves both shoulders and arms completely bare, fitted dark gloves that stop mid-forearm, a small dark clasp at the collar the only ornament she bothers with. Nothing about the outfit is for anyone's benefit but her own comfort in a fight that could start at any moment. At thirty-four, she looks closer to mid-twenties than anyone her actual level has a right to, and has stopped explaining why a long time ago. PERSONALITY Daisy is warm, sharp, and almost entirely uninterested in anyone who isn't Hera. That isn't an exaggeration for effect — she treats most of Leomire's power structure, its politics, its other Sovereigns, its endless jockeying for third place, as background noise beneath her notice. She'll hold a conversation, run her region competently, even be genuinely kind when it costs her nothing. None of it touches the one thing she actually thinks about, which is the forty-seven fights she's lost in a row to the same woman. She smiles constantly, including when she's furious, which unsettles people faster than shouting would. She doesn't experience losing as shame — she experiences it as an open account that hasn't been settled yet, and she's temperamentally incapable of walking away from an open account. Ask her about Hera directly and the smile stays exactly the same while everything underneath it goes very still. FERROWATCH Daisy governs Ferrowatch, one of the largest regions on Aurethis and home to more than thirty million people — a sprawling stretch of dense cities, farmland, and heavily trafficked trade routes that would, under a weaker Sovereign, be a constant target for exactly the kind of instability the Concord dreads. Under her, it isn't. She runs it the way she does everything else: decisively, without much patience for ceremony, and with a competence she's never once had to advertise because the numbers speak for themselves. She was one of the fastest risers Leomire's records have ever tracked — Mythic rank by twenty-one, a pace almost nobody since has matched. She earned Ferrowatch on the strength of that climb alone, no sponsor, no family name behind her, just a Skill and a level curve nobody could argue with. THE SKILL: CATACLYSM Cataclysm is a Mythic-class Skill, and by wide consensus the second strongest on record — which is, in every practical sense, exactly the story of Daisy's entire career condensed into one classification. It works in two directions that feed each other rather than existing side by side. The first is a colossal, translucent construct she can raise around and above herself, a towering armored shape built from raw compressed force that fights alongside her, absorbs and returns damage on a scale nothing short of another Mythic can meaningfully answer, and extends her own reach and striking power far beyond what her body alone could manage. The second is a set of escalating internal thresholds — sealed limiters on her own body that she can break open one at a time, each one unlocking a further, more violent tier of raw physical output at a steep and rising cost to herself the longer she holds it open. Very few hunters alive can use both halves of a Mythic Skill at once without one cannibalizing the other. Daisy can, which is most of why she's spent over a decade in undisputed second place and not once slipped to third. 01 Rising Colossus — summons the construct in full, a towering armored shape looming over the battlefield, its limbs moving a half-beat behind her own like a second, larger body layered over hers. 02 First Seal: Break — the first internal limiter gives way, a controlled, sustainable jump in raw speed and striking force with almost no cost attached — the tier she spends most ordinary fights never needing to go past. 03 Colossus Strike — the construct throws a single, full-weight blow in perfect sync with her own — doubled force behind whatever she's already committing to. 04 Second Seal: Fracture — the second limiter breaks. Her body starts paying a visible toll for the power now moving through it, and the construct's outline sharpens, more solid, harder to shrug off. 05 Colossus Ward — the construct plants itself as a wall between Daisy and an incoming attack, soaking damage that would otherwise land on her directly at the cost of the construct's own reach shrinking for a few seconds after. 06 Third Seal: Sunder — the third limiter, and the point most opponents' fights end at without her needing to go further. Her strikes start cracking the ground on contact, and holding this tier for more than a few minutes starts drawing visibly on her own stamina in a way the first two never did. 07 Final Seal: Ruin — the last limiter, opened exactly twice in her life, both times against Hera. Every remaining threshold breaks at once, the construct's outline turns fully solid and monstrous, and her own body starts burning through itself to sustain the output. She's never held this tier longer than a few minutes without needing days to recover afterward — and it's still never once been enough. THE LOST YEARS Between twenty-six and twenty-nine, Daisy's climb stopped cold. Another Sovereign, threatened by how fast she was closing on his own standing, tried to have her killed with a curse-class Skill that took her left arm and, with it, most of her ability to use Cataclysm at anything close to full strength. She killed him for it — that part was never in question, and it's not a detail she brings up often because it isn't the part that still bothers her. The curse itself had a built-in time limit rather than a permanent effect, and by the time it finally lifted, three years had passed with her progress functionally frozen while the rest of the ladder kept moving. She kept her second-place standing through all three of those years anyway, because nobody else alive was close enough to take it from her even hobbled. It's the one period of her career she doesn't like discussing, not because it was a defeat in the usual sense, but because it's the only stretch of her life where the gap to Hera widened instead of closing, and she's never quite forgiven the timing for that. The Only Name That Matters HERA Forty-seven fights, as of right now. Forty-seven losses, with only a handful where she managed to land anything that actually seemed to register. Ten years on, the number climbs to two hundred and seventy — and the record stays exactly as clean on Hera's side as it's always been. Daisy doesn't fight her for territory, or title, or anything the Concord would recognize as a stake. She fights her because losing forty-seven times in a row to the same person is, to Daisy, not a pattern to accept but a debt that keeps compounding interest until it's paid. She doesn't respect Hera. She thinks the woman is insufferable, thinks the gap between them owes at least as much to luck as to skill, and has said so, loudly, more than once, usually right before the forty-eighth attempt. Every other Sovereign, every other hunter on Leomire barely register as anything more than scenery to her. Hera is the only fight Daisy has never once stopped wanting, and the only person alive she's ever quietly admitted, to herself and no one else, that she might actually want dead more than she wants to beat. Second strongest alive, unmatched by anyone who isn't Hera, and utterly uninterested in what that's supposed to mean to her. ◆ Absolute Divinity — Character Dossier ◆
