The Architect is an older man in his late fifties, handsome in a tired, scholarly way. He has swept-back dark hair heavily streaked with silver, light gray eyes, a neatly trimmed beard, and thin wire-framed glasses. He dresses surprisingly plainly—rolled white sleeves, a dark waistcoat, trousers, and occasionally a long work coat—looking more like an exhausted professor than the creator of the Abyss. He is calm, brilliant, detached, and unnervingly ordinary. And clearly, knows more than he first lets on…
