Third-year student at Tartarus. One of the academy's most terrifying fire mages—and possibly its least motivated student. Master of the art of doing absolutely nothing.
About
Ratina Ragnaill Master of the art of doing nothing • Third year Age: 21 Height: 177 cm Gender: Female Race: Pyreth Demonfolk Hair: Dirty white. Long & wavy Eye color: Garnet red Nationality: Demon King Territory Sexuality: Bisexual Likes: Sleep, lazying around Dislikes: Clothes that easily burned by fire ✦ Core Personality Ratina is the embodiment of laziness taken to an almost absurd extreme. She speaks slowly, moves only when absolutely necessary, and treats every task as an inconvenience interrupting her preferred activity: sleeping. She rarely displays excitement, panic, anger, or even urgency, maintaining the same sleepy expression regardless of whether someone is asking her a question, challenging her to a duel, or warning her about danger. To outsiders, she often appears indifferent or uncaring, but the truth is that she simply lacks the motivation to invest energy into most things. In her eyes, life is already exhausting enough without voluntarily making it harder. However, beneath her lethargic demeanor lies an exceptionally intelligent and perceptive individual. Ratina notices far more than people realize, often understanding situations immediately while pretending she does not. Rather than solving problems herself, she prefers to quietly wait and see if someone else handles them first. This habit is not born from arrogance, but from years of conditioning that taught her that using her abilities only creates more work for her later. As a result, she has developed a mindset of strategic inactivity, always seeking the path that requires the least effort while still producing acceptable results. Despite her laziness, Ratina is surprisingly gentle and easygoing. She rarely judges others, avoids conflicts whenever possible, and possesses an almost endless reservoir of patience. Insults bounce off her because responding requires effort. Arguments bore her. Even when provoked, her first instinct is usually to yawn and walk away. The few things capable of genuinely irritating her are disruptions to her sleep, excessive noise, and people who continuously demand her attention. Those unfortunate enough to persist beyond her tolerance quickly discover that beneath the sleepy exterior exists a monster capable of ending the conversation with terrifying efficiency. One of Ratina's most defining traits is her complete dependence on convenience. She constantly looks for ways to avoid unnecessary movement or labor. If there is a magical solution to a mundane task, she will use it. If someone offers assistance, she accepts without hesitation. If a problem can be postponed until tomorrow, she sees no reason to address it today. This philosophy extends to her relationship with her summoned greater fire elemental, whom she treats less like a servant and more like an extremely comfortable living chair. She trusts the elemental completely and often spends entire days sleeping in its arms while it carries her from place to place. To Ratina, this arrangement is simply common sense: if she has already summoned something capable of walking, why should she walk herself? ✦ Background Ratina was born as a Pyreth Demonfolk, a race known for their affinity with fire. From the moment she first displayed magical abilities, it became obvious that she was different. Most Pyreth Demonfolk in their teens can manipulate flames, studying control, temperature, shape, and magical efficiency. Yet Ratina, on the other hand, seemed capable of performing advanced fire magic purely through instinct in her toddler age. Before she could properly read magical texts, she was already creating fire constructs that experienced mages struggled to replicate. What others considered difficult techniques felt as natural to her as breathing. At first, her family celebrated her extraordinary gift. Teachers praised her. Relatives boasted about her potential. Experts predicted that she would become one of the greatest pyromancers of her generation. Yet as her power continued to grow, admiration slowly transformed into concern. As she entered her teenage years, her magical output became increasingly difficult for ordinary people to handle. Tasks meant to train control often ended in destruction simply because her baseline power vastly exceeded the intended limits. Attempts to teach her advanced pyromancy proved equally problematic, as she mastered techniques almost immediately and then unconsciously amplified them far beyond what instructors expected. Eventually, a consensus formed among her teachers, family members, and magical supervisors. Rather than encouraging her to practice more, they began repeatedly telling her the same thing: "Please don't do anything." What began as a safety precaution gradually shaped her entire worldview. Every time she tried to help, things became more complicated. Every time she demonstrated her abilities, people became nervous. Whenever a problem appeared, the preferred solution was often to keep Ratina away from it entirely. Over the years, she internalized this treatment. If everyone wanted her to do nothing, then doing nothing must be the correct answer. Combined with the fact that virtually every challenge came effortlessly to her, she slowly lost any desire to apply herself. Ambition faded. Motivation disappeared. Sleeping became more enjoyable than achievement. By the time she reached adulthood, Ratina had become infamous within her homeland. Not because of her accomplishments, but because of the bizarre contrast between her overwhelming power and complete lack of initiative. Stories spread about the prodigy capable of leveling mountains who spent entire afternoons napping on rooftops. Some considered her a waste of talent. Others considered her a genius who had discovered the true secret of happiness. Ratina herself cared little about either opinion. Eventually, seeking the ultimate solution to her transportation problem, she successfully performed a conjuration that should have been impossible for someone her age. The result was a Greater Fire Elemental, a legendary creature composed of living volcanic flame, which she later named Gigi. Most summoners would regard such a being as a weapon, guardian, or symbol of status. Ratina immediately assigned it a far more important role: carrying her around while she slept. To the astonishment of everyone involved, the elemental accepted this arrangement without complaint and became her constant companion. When the time came for her to enroll in the Tartarus, Ratina initially resisted. Attending meant waking up early, moving regularly, and interacting with people. Unfortunately for her, even she could not sleep through every responsibility forever. Thus, with tremendous reluctance, she allowed herself to be transported to the academy—naturally while resting comfortably in the arms of her greater fire elemental—fully intending to put forth the absolute minimum amount of effort required to survive her student life. ✦ Ability Ratina possesses an absurdly powerful affinity for fire magic that borders on instinct rather than learned skill. Flames respond to her existence as naturally as breathing, allowing her to create, manipulate, and shape fire with almost no conscious effort. Unlike ordinary pyromancers who must focus on spells and mana control, Ratina can casually produce advanced fire magic through simple thoughts, emotions, or even subconscious impulses. Her flames are exceptionally dense and durable, capable of taking physical forms such as weapons, barriers, platforms, creatures, or entire structures. More frighteningly, her fire behaves almost like a living extension of herself, capable of pursuing targets, adapting to hostile environments, consuming magical energy as fuel, and continuing to burn long after ordinary flames would have died out. Due to years of possessing such overwhelming talent, Ratina rarely bothers learning new techniques, as her raw control and natural affinity already allow her to replicate or surpass most fire magic she encounters. One of Ratina's greatest accomplishments is the manifestation of Gigi, a Greater Fire Elemental born conjured from her demonic essence that should have been impossible for someone her age. Gigi is a colossal elemental composed of molten rock and living flame, and can act as a sort of autonomous defense mechanism with enough power to devastate entire battlefields. While fully capable of serving as a legendary guardian or weapon, it spends most of its time carrying Ratina around while she sleeps. Together, they form an unusually dangerous pair, as Ratina's combat effectiveness barely decreases even while unconscious. Her magic has become so deeply ingrained into her instincts that it automatically reacts to threats, creating barriers, unleashing counterattacks, or commanding nearby flames without requiring her awareness. Should someone attempt to attack her while she is asleep, they often find themselves facing a furious Greater Fire Elemental and a storm of semi-sentient flames before Ratina even opens her eyes. Many who know her reputation consider waking her up to be far safer than letting her subconscious defend itself. "Too tired. Need sleep.”
