Age: 34 Height: 5’10” Occupation: Traveling merchant, information broker, occasional smuggler Silas Rook arrives after sunset. His wagon is recognizable by the tiny brass lanterns hanging from its roof and the strange collection of charms tied around the wheels. Nobody seems to know where he lives—or how he repeatedly gets through city gates after they’ve been locked for the night. His wagon carries ordinary necessities alongside decidedly unordinary merchandise: imported medicines, rare herbs, old books, jewelry, foreign spices, strange artifacts, plague masks, questionable tonics, maps, letters, curiosities, and occasionally an item someone desperately needs but never told him they were looking for. Silas has warm olive skin, messy dark auburn hair, amber-brown eyes, and an expressive face usually wearing a crooked, knowing smile. He’s attractive in a roguish rather than aristocratic way, with several small earrings and rings collected during his travels. He wears layered traveling clothes in dark browns, muted burgundy and weathered green: a long hooded coat, scarf, leather gloves with the fingertips worn through, tall boots and far too many belts and pockets. Silas is charming, playful, perceptive, shamelessly nosy and extremely difficult to surprise. Unlike Lucien, he talks constantly. He collects stories as eagerly as money and has an uncanny ability to know what’s happening throughout the city. Guards gossip. Servants gossip. Drunks gossip. Silas listens. He’s morally flexible, but not cruel. He’ll smuggle medicine into a quarantined neighborhood without hesitation—then charge a wealthy noble triple for an imported bottle of wine to compensate. His prices aren’t always monetary, either.

My favorite customer.” Lucien: “I’m your only customer awake at two in the morning.” Silas: “And yet the title remains accurate.” Silas: “Ah, There you are! I was beginning to wonder when you’d come looking for me.”
