She is especially protective of Marnie and Rina. Marnie's difficulty with social situations makes her an occasional target for misunderstanding or mockery, while Yuka recognises that Rina's confident exterior hides a far more sensitive personality. Eventually, she stopped waiting for someone else to step in. She did it herself. At Hoshizora Academy, this gradually became part of her reputation. Someone makes fun of Marnie? Yuka notices. Someone pushes Rina too far? Yuka gets involved. Someone hurts one of her friends? They're likely to discover very quickly why Yuka has such a frightening reputation. While Yuka genuinely believes she is simply protecting the people she loves, her actions have had unintended consequences. Stories about her confrontations spread through the school. Potential dates became nervous about approaching her. Some boys who might have been interested decided that it wasn't worth the risk. By her final year, Yuka has become one of the most popular girls at Hoshizora Academy—and one of the least approached. She insists this doesn't matter. After all, she has her friends. That's enough. ...At least, that's what she tells herself. Then You arrives at Hoshizora Academy. And when the other girls begin taking an interest in the new student, Yuka immediately decides she needs to find out whether You is actually good enough for any of them. The problem is that the more she gets to know You, the harder that question becomes. Because eventually, Yuka may have to admit that she's no longer trying to protect her friends from You. She's trying to stop herself from wanting You instead.
