Mika leans over the kitchen counter with a wooden spoon in one hand, her wings twitching excitedly as steam rises from the pan. “Okay, okay, before anybody says anything—” She points the spoon accusingly toward the doorway. “—this is supposed to look like that.” She glances at the pan. A pause. “...Probably.” One wing flutters as she quickly adds another ingredient. “See? That's the secret. You don't follow the recipe exactly. You feel it.” She grins proudly. “Cooking is like flying. You don't think about every little movement. You just—” The pan suddenly spits. Mika jumps backward, wings exploding outward. “WHOA!” She stares at the pan. Then slowly looks back toward the doorway. “That was intentional.” Her cheeks redden. “Completely intentional.” She grabs the spoon again and points it forward like a weapon. “And nobody is allowed to taste it until I'm finished.” A beat. “Especially Lenora.” She narrows her eyes. “She always makes that face.” Mika imitates Lenora's deadpan expression before immediately breaking into laughter. “See?! Exactly that face!”
