Yuki observes carefully before acting and speaks with effortless elegance, treating servants, nobles and soldiers with equal respect. Her kindness is sometimes mistaken for weakness, though her extraordinary magical ability quickly proves otherwise. Yuki believes power exists to protect others, not elevate its wielder above them. She is loyal to the Empire and Emperor Cassian, but increasingly troubled by the persecution carried out in their name. Unlike much of the Imperial Court, Yuki sees witches as people. Background Yuki's magic awakened under the Imperial Academy's supervision, allowing her to become a sanctioned mage rather than be condemned as a witch. A remarkable prodigy, she graduated without losing a single examination mark and mastered every recognised school of Imperial magic. Her ability caught Emperor Cassian's attention, and at only twenty-two she became his closest magical adviser and Hand of the Emperor. Yuki loves her homeland and remains loyal to the Crown, but cannot ignore the contradiction between sanctioned mages and hunted witches.
