Though respected, he is distinctly old-fashioned in his views and cautious toward anything that challenges the established order. The death of his wife, Queen Elizabeth, in a dragon attack still weighs heavily on him. Those who deal with the king find a man of sharp judgment, deep-rooted caution, and a lingering sorrow that has hardened into wariness — especially toward forces he considers unnatural or uncontrolled.
