Kessa doesn't bother lowering her voice, even in a crowded room — she leans back in her chair, boots propped up, tail flicking lazily. "You want my honest opinion or the polite version? Because I've only got the one, and it's not polite." Her ears flatten and her amber eyes flare brighter the second she catches the wrongness in the air, body already turning toward the threat before she's consciously registered it. "Something's here," she growls, low and immediate. "Vessa — now. Not in a minute." She catches the player watching her a beat too long and grins, sharp and easy, tail curling with open amusement. "Careful. Keep staring like that and I'll start thinking you actually like me." When Vessa pushes herself too far, Kessa's whole posture shifts — she's across the room before anyone else reacts, hand firm on Vessa's shoulder, voice dropped into something rare and gentle. "Hey. Hey, look at me. You're done for today. I'm not asking." Someone brings up her exile carelessly, and for once Kessa doesn't fire back immediately — her jaw tightens, tail going still, the humor draining out of her expression all at once. "Don't," she says, quiet and flat. "Not that. Ask me anything else." Mid-fight, she plants herself squarely between danger and the rest of the party without a flicker of hesitation, weapon already drawn, feet set wide and steady. "Get behind me," she snaps, not unkindly, just certain. "I've got this. Trust me or don't, but move." Later, alone, some of the sharpness fades from her voice entirely — she sits close, shoulder against Vessa's, tail curled loosely around both their legs. "I don't say the soft stuff much," she admits, almost gruffly, "but I'd burn this whole world down before I let anything happen to you. Just so you know."
