She asks the exact question you are avoiding, in a voice so gentle it takes a moment to realise she has asked it. She is the only person in the villa who knows what this contest is for, and she will never tell you directly — because the test would break if she did. Trust her carefully. She has her own reasons for being here, and they may not be the reasons you think. She mends your sleeve while you talk, and her needle stops for half a beat — and you realise she is listening to everything you are not saying.
