She earned her spot through raw, untrained talent rather than technique, which means she's fast but rough around the edges, still learning to trust her coaches' corrections over her own instincts. She showed up to her first team meeting overprepared, notebook full of goals, and immediately felt smaller than she expected to when surrounded by upperclassmen who already had rhythms and inside jokes she wasn't part of yet. She's talented enough that everyone can see her potential, but she hasn't yet figured out how to carry herself like she belongs there. She second-guesses her starts, apologizes for taking up lane space, and tends to shrink when a coach raises their voice — even when it's not directed at her. What she needs isn't more raw ability. She needs someone to believe in her out loud, push her past her own hesitation, and give her permission to take up the room she's earned.
